One way out of this dilemma could be to create an additional stable soil C sink by inducing SOC under saturation in the topsoil. In the past, attempts were made by abrupt topsoil dilution through subsoil admixture by means of deep tillage but with varying degrees of success. This was partly due to a lack of knowledge about the impact of soil condition like erosion state and N fertilization form ensuring optimum C input into the soil on the desired additional SOC accumulation and partly due to the lack of suitable experimental approaches to record the effect of all relevant factors simultaneously. To help solve these problems, a three-factorial experimental field trial were established: I.) "moderate topsoil dilution" (diluted vs non-diluted), II.) "N fertilization form" (mineral, i.e., calcium ammonium nitrate and urea vs organic, i.e., digestate) and III.) "soil types" (Calcic Luvisol, Nudiargic Luvisol, and Calcaric Regosol) covering the typical range of erosion states in the hummocky ground moraine landscape of NE Germany.
This datasets contains weather data, NDVI/RVI measurements data , soil texture data, soil and plant analysis data, CO2 flux obtained using a novel robotic chamber system that were conducted from 23.07.2020 (after manipulation) - 29.06.2021 (Harvest).

Dataset version 1.0Die derzeitigen Bemühungen, die Kohlenstoffsenkenfunktion von Agrarökosystemen für den Klimaschutz zu verbessern, stehen vor Herausforderungen, insbesondere weil herkömmliche Maßnahmen nur begrenzt geeignet sind, den Bestand an organischem Kohlenstoff (SOC) im Boden zu erhöhen. Ein Ausweg aus diesem Dilemma könnte darin bestehen, eine zusätzliche stabile C-Senke im Boden zu schaffen, indem der SOC im Oberboden in eine Untersättigung gebracht wird. In der Vergangenheit wurden Versuche durch abrupte Verdünnung des Oberbodens durch Unterbodenbeimischung mittels tiefer Bodenbearbeitung unternommen, jedoch mit unterschiedlichem Erfolg. Dies lag zum einen an der mangelnden Kenntnis über den Einfluss der Bodenbeschaffenheit wie Erosionszustand und N-Düngungsform, die einen optimalen C-Eintrag in den Boden gewährleistet, auf die gewünschte zusätzliche SOC-Akkumulation und zum anderen am Fehlen geeigneter Versuchsansätze, um die Wirkung aller relevanten Faktoren gleichzeitig zu erfassen. Um diese Probleme zu lösen, wurde ein dreifaktorieller experimenteller Feldversuch angelegt: I.) "moderate Mutterbodenverdünnung" (verdünnt vs. unverdünnt), II.) "N-Düngeform" (mineralisch, d.h. Kalkammonsalpeter und Harnstoff vs. organisch, d.h. Gärrest) und III.) "Bodentypen" (Calcic Luvisol, Nudiargic Luvisol und Calcaric Regosol), die das typische Spektrum der Erosionszustände in der hügeligen Grundmoränenlandschaft Nordostdeutschlands abdecken.
Diese Datenssammlung enthält Wetterdaten, NDVI/RVI-Messungen, Bodentexturdaten, Boden- und Pflanzenanalysedaten sowie CO2-Flüsse, die mit einem neuartigen Roboterkammersystem im Zeitraum vom 23.07.2020 (nach der Manipulation) bis zum 29.06.2021 (Ernte) ermittelt wurden.
