Sorbable substances in particular include groups of substances such as the cations of nutrients, heavy metals and organics, which are either dissolved in soil water or adhere to small particles or even present in particulate form. In dissolved form, the said substances are bound to the exchangers (soil material) and thus removed from the soil solution. In particle form, they are filtered in the ground if they can no longer be transported with the leachate due to mechanical obstacles, such as at the end of worm tubes. The overall filter effect can be estimated depending on cation exchange capacity and air capacity. The estimation result consists of a total of 11 stages, of which only 8 are relevant in Schleswig-Holstein. The higher the level, the higher the overall filter effect. It is the largest in fine-grained soil material with low air capacity, such as in the march and in the Eastern Hills, and in coarse grain soil material with high air capacity, such as in the foregeest. With the overall filter effect, a natural soil function is assessed in accordance with Section 2(2) of the BBodSchG, in accordance with point 1.c) as a degradation, balancing and superstructure medium for material effects due to the filter, buffer and substance conversion properties, in particular for the protection of groundwater. The criterion chosen for this purpose is the mechanical and physico-chemical filtering capacity of the soil with the characteristic value of total filter effect. We determined soil carbon stocks and characterized soil fungal communities directly underneath and &gt;3\uffc2\uffa0m away from mountain birches (Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii) in two adjacent 55\uffe2\uff80\uff90year\uffe2\uff80\uff90old grazing regimes with or without summer grazing by reindeer (Rangifer tarandus). We show that the area exposed to year\uffe2\uff80\uff90round grazing dominated by evergreen dwarf shrubs had higher soil C:N ratio, higher fungal abundance and lower fungal diversity compared with the area with only winter grazing and higher abundance of mountain birch. Although soil carbon stocks did not differ between the grazing regimes, stocks were positively associated with root\uffe2\uff80\uff90associated ascomycetes, typical to the year\uffe2\uff80\uff90round grazing regime, and negatively associated with free\uffe2\uff80\uff90living saprotrophs, typical to the winter grazing regime. These findings suggest that when grazers promote dominance of evergreen dwarf shrubs, they induce shifts in soil fungal communities that increase soil carbon sequestration in the long term. Specifically, an increasing gradient zone of multi-year average of net reduction rate in vegetation carbon uptake (MYANRRVCU) from east to west was observed. In addition, we found that the recovery of vegetation net C uptake after the disturbance caused by climate change and anthropogenic disturbance in the gradient zone were primarily dominated by precipitation and temperature. The findings revealed that the effects of climate change on MYANRRVCU and vegetation net C uptake recovery differed significantly across geographical space and vegetation types. To this end, the resistance selection and enrichment potential due to antibiotic emissions into the environment must be analysed from a life cycle perspective, for a wide range of antibiotics, and considering variations in the underlying fitness costs between different resistance mutations and genes. The aim of this study is to consistently derive fitness cost-dependent minimum selective concentrations (MSCs) from readily available bacterial inhibition data and to build MSC-based species sensitivity distributions (SSDs). These are then used to determine antibiotic-specific resistance selection concentrations predicted to promote resistance in 5% of exposed bacterial species (RSC5). Using a previously developed competition model, we provide estimated MSC10 endpoints for 2,984 antibiotic and bacterial species combinations; the largest set of modelled MSCs available to date. Based on constructed SSDs, we derive RSC5 for 128 antibiotics with four orders of magnitude difference in their 'selective pressure potential' in the environment. By comparing our RSC5 to MECs, we highlight specific environmental compartments (e.g. hospital and wastewater effluents, lakes and rivers), as well as several antibiotics (e.g. ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, enrofloxacin, and tetracycline), to be scrutinized for their potential role in resistance selection and dissemination. The outcome of the measurements allowed a rough MP budget in the Danish Straits region, suggesting that urban waste- and stormwater discharges could not be neglected as potential MP source in these waters. The marine samples were collected by pumping and filtering water over 10 \u03bcm steel filters, hereby sampling a total of 19.3 m3. They were prepared and analyzed by FPA-\u03bcFTIR imaging, and the scans interpreted to yield MP size, shape, polymer type, and estimated mass. The average concentration was 103 \u00b1 86 items m-3, corresponding to 23.3 \u00b1 28.3 \u03bcg m-3 (17-286 items m-3; 0.6-84.1 \u03bcg m-3).
