Therefore, STs and SESs require to be assessed using explicit and appropriate methodologies. Indicators are suitable communications tools with stakeholders and the general public because they facilitate the simplification of complex human-environmental systems and provide aggregated information on certain phenomena at the spatial and temporal scale that they represent. Task 2.3 of the SERENA project was aimed at developing harmonised methodologies to evaluate bundles of soil threats (STs) and soil-based ecosystem services (SESs) at different levels. The Deliverable 2.3.1 developed the second step of the harmonization of STs and SESs indicators, whereas this deliverable developed the third step of the global tiered strategy for harmonisation and was mainly focused on the definition of methods for the harmonised assessment of indicators of STs and SESs at the member state (MS) level. The deliverable was focused on soil erosion (ST) and soil erosion control (SES), soil organic carbon (SOC) loss (ST), greenhouse gas (GHG) and climate regulation (SES), and soil sealing (ST) as well as a bundle of STs/SESs. Different cookbooks were developed to provide harmonized approaches/methods for assessing indicators for STs/SESs at national scale. This SERENA dataset (100 m resolution) of soil orgnanic carbon concentration (0-20 cm soil layer) for Flanders was mainly produced to test the methodology of the SERENA SOC LOSS cookbook of the European SERENA EJP SOIL project. The data was prepared according to the methodology of SERENA SOC LOSS cookbook. The objective of SERENA project was to develop methods to calculate and map soil-based ecosystem services and soil threats. Soil organic carbon concentration was used as an indicator for soil organic carbon loss (ST). The map was based on digital soil mapping according to the method used in the EJP SOIL project WP6: Digital soil mapping approach with random forest using ISRIC workflow seedling. To create the soil organic carbon concentration map, we used soil organic carbon data of the regional soil organic carbon monitoring network Cmon in Flanders (0-10 and 10-30 cm soil layer) from the period 2021-2024. The soil organic carbon concentration of the 0-20 cm was derived from the 0-10 and 10-30 cm Cmon data. The following auxiliary data was used: Digitale bodemkaart van het Vlaams Gewest: bodemtypes; Regional climate data; Landgebruik - Vlaanderen - toestand 2022; Tertiair geologische kaart (1/50.000); Bodembedekkingskaart (BBK), 1m resolutie, opname 2021; WRB Soil Units 40k: Bodemkaart van het Vlaamse Gewest volgens het internationale bodemclassificatiesysteem World Reference Base op schaal 1:40.000; Digitaal Hoogtemodel Vlaanderen II, DSM, raster, 1 m. The dataset will be mostly useful as a reference result for actors that want to learn to implement the part of the soil organic carbon loss cookbook of SERENA dealing with the creation of a SOC concentration map. It can have limited use as an interim SOC concentration map for Flanders until a better map becomes available using an optimised methodology and/or new data from the regional soil organic carbon monitoring network that was not yet available when this map was created. To achieve the aim for accounting SOC loss in agricultural soils temporal pairs were selected resulting in 1037 paired points where the interval between second sampling was more than 5 years. SOC stocks were calculated for the depth of 20 cm using the equation by Adams (1973) to calculate soil bulk density. The results of the evaluation by stakeholders are commented all together, without any relation to a specific country. The cookbooks for each indicator of ST/SES (including bundles of STs/SESs) reported in this deliverable were provide to Task 3.2 for their application at MS scale and subsequent validation of these applications by Task 1.3.", "keywords": ["soil threat", "Soil sciences", "Deliverable 2.3.2", "indicator", "EJPSOIL", "Task 2.3", "SERENA project", "soil based ecosystem service", "Grant n 862695"], "contacts": [{"organization": "Buttafuoco, Gabriele, Montagne, David, Hessel, Rudi, Asins-Velis, Sabina, Assennato, Francesca, Lemercier, Blandine, Coblinski, Jo\u00e3o, Cockx, Kasper, Congedo, Luca, Cousin, Isabelle, De Fioravante, Paolo, Foldal, Cecilie, Kukk, Liia, Laborczi, Annam\u00e1ria, Lorenzetti, Romina, Marinosci, Ines, Medina-Rold\u00e1n, Eduardo, Munaf\u00f2, Michele, Oorts, Katrien, Pesch, Charles, Pindral, Sylwia, Reyes Rojas, Jessica, Riitano, Nicola, Saby, Nicolas, Smiraglia, Daniela, Sanden, Taru, Ungaro, Fabrizio,", "roles": ["creator"]}]}, "links": [{"href": "https://doi.org/50|od______2659::59dfab092e2324399ffe618055e5ce16"}, {"rel": "self", "type": "application/geo+json", "title": "50|od______2659::59dfab092e2324399ffe618055e5ce16", "name": "item", "description": "50|od______2659::59dfab092e2324399ffe618055e5ce16", "href": "https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main/items/50|od______2659::59dfab092e2324399ffe618055e5ce16"}, {"rel": "collection", "type": "application/json", "title": "Collection", "name": "collection", "description": "Collection", "href": "https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main"}], "time": {"date": "2024-10-29T00:00:00Z"}}, {"id": "50|od______2659::694ff7c599ecdc11f0dd8cd4c4d84634", "type": "Feature", "geometry": null, "properties": {"updated": "2026-05-24T16:25:47Z", "type": "Dataset", "title": "SERENA EJPSOIL IT TUS SOC Loss SOC", "description": "The internal EJP SOIL project SERENA contributed to the evaluation of soil multifunctionality aiming at providing assessment tools for land planning and soil policies at different scales. The map is the result of applying the SOC loss cookbook developed in SERENA/EJP-Soil. It is based on Tuscany Region SOCdatabase (Gardin et al., 2021). Not freely available (Lamma Consortium). More information and requests to: info@lamma.toscana.it. Three versions of the map were produced. In versions v1 and v2, the dataset corresponds to a map of SOC concentrations for the Tuscany Region produced using a geostatistical approach. Ordinary kriging (Chil\u00e8s & Delfiner, 2012) coupled with local geostatistics (LGS) was used to map SOC concentration (%) in the topsoil (0-30 cm) at a regional scale in the Tuscany Region (Italy). The map has a 50 m spatial resolution. In version v3, a different approach to applying SOC loss cookbook was used. Particularly, Random Forest regression algorithm with numerous spatial covariates was applied for mapping SOC content (%) in the topsoil (0-30 cm) at regional scale in Tuscany Region (Italy). \u00a0The map has a 100 m spatial resolution.", "keywords": ["EJP Soil", "Random Forest", "Italy", "Tuscany", "Soil Organic Carbon (SOC)", "SOC loss", "Topsoil", "SERENA", "Grant n 862695", "Digital Soil Mapping"], "contacts": [{"organization": "Buttafuoco, Gabriele, Gardin, Lorenzo, Lorenzetti, Romina, Medina-Rold\u00e1n, Eduardo, Ungaro, Fabrizio,", "roles": ["creator"]}]}, "links": [{"href": "https://doi.org/50|od______2659::694ff7c599ecdc11f0dd8cd4c4d84634"}, {"rel": "self", "type": "application/geo+json", "title": "50|od______2659::694ff7c599ecdc11f0dd8cd4c4d84634", "name": "item", "description": "50|od______2659::694ff7c599ecdc11f0dd8cd4c4d84634", "href": "https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main/items/50|od______2659::694ff7c599ecdc11f0dd8cd4c4d84634"}, {"rel": "collection", "type": "application/json", "title": "Collection", "name": "collection", "description": "Collection", "href": "https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main"}], "time": {"date": "2024-10-31T00:00:00Z"}}, {"id": "50|od______2659::7381a21d9b62b438cfbd6022f14587f9", "type": "Feature", "geometry": null, "properties": {"updated": "2026-05-24T16:25:47Z", "type": "Report", "title": "Deliverable D4.1 Soil-related policy analysis", "description": "The internal EJP SOIL project\u00a0SERENA contributed to the evaluation of soil multifunctionality aiming at providing assessment tools for land planning and soil policies at different scales.
