Chemicals exuded by plant roots can alter the fluid properties, such as viscosity, of the water phase, potentially with impacts on plant productivity and stress tolerance. In this paper, we study the effects of plant exudates on the macroscale properties of water movement in soil. Our starting point is a microscale description of two fluid flow and exudate diffusion in a periodic geometry composed from a regular repetition of a unit cell. Using multiscale homogenization theory, we derive a coupled set of equations that describe the movement of air and water, and the diffusion of plant exudates on the macroscale. These equations are parametrized by a set of cell problems that capture the flow behaviour. The mathematical steps are validated by comparing the resulting homogenized equations to the original pore scale equations, and we show that the difference between the two models is \u22727% for eight cells. The resulting equations provide a computationally efficient method to study plant\u2013soil interactions. La prise en compte d\u2019\u00e9chelles de temps embo\u00eet\u00e9es permet d\u2019appr\u00e9hender le r\u00f4le respectif des param\u00e8tres hydrodynamiques : la mar\u00e9e, le d\u00e9bit fluvial, la houle et le batillage. Les r\u00e9sultats acquis sur les sites de l\u2019estuaire de Seine, de l\u2019amont \u00e0 l\u2019aval, et la comparaison du fonctionnement de diff\u00e9rentes vasi\u00e8res \u00e0 l\u2019embouchure (Authie, Medway, Seine) soulignent le r\u00f4le clef des vasi\u00e8res intertidales dans le transfert des s\u00e9diments fins vers la mer. Dans la partie amont de l\u2019estuaire de Seine, la crue contr\u00f4le les d\u00e9p\u00f4ts temporaires de s\u00e9diment fins tandis qu\u2019en p\u00e9riode d\u2019\u00e9tiage, les cycles de mar\u00e9e semi-lunaire \u00e9rodent ces d\u00e9p\u00f4ts. A l\u2019embouchure de l\u2019estuaire, la mar\u00e9e contr\u00f4le la s\u00e9dimentation gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019apport du bouchon vaseux selon un cycle lunaire. La comparaison des r\u00e9sultats obtenus sur les trois vasi\u00e8res d\u2019embouchure poss\u00e9dant des caract\u00e9ristiques morphologiques et s\u00e9dimentaires diff\u00e9rentes confirme le r\u00f4le de la source s\u00e9dimentaire et de la morphologie de l\u2019estuaire sur le transfert des s\u00e9diments fins en domaine intertidal estuarien. Here, we provide field data on tree stem atmosphere fluxes of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide in 14 spruce trees (Picea abies) and 14 birch trees (Betula pendula) in a Swedish boreal riparian buffer zone. The data was collected at Trollbergets Experimental Area, Vindeln municipality, Sweden, roughly on a monthly basis between May 2021 and May 2023. Stem fluxes were measured at 30 cm above ground in all trees and along height profiles at 80 and 160 cm in four selected trees. For ecosystem context, data on forest floor - atmosphere fluxes of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide from 12 plots are provided. Data on carbon dioxide and methane fluxes are from in situ measurements of flux chambers and data on nitrous oxide fluxes is from manual grab sampling of flux chambers. In this study, we build high-resolution geospatial data to build a semi-distributed water quantity and water quality model for two Swedish Agricultural Catchments in Hydrological Predictions of the Environment (HYPE). We calibrated and validated the model using discharge and water quality monitoring data from the streams in our study sites.  We subsequently used the calibrated model to forecast the impacts of climate change on nutrient (Inorganic Nitrogen and Total Phosphorus) loads under three relative concentration pathways (RCP2.6, RCP4.5, and RCP 8.5) and three periods (2022-2035, 2050-2065, and 2085-2100). Finally, we backcasted a 50% reduction in nutrient loads using  catchment mitigation scenarios (20% reduction in fertilisation, increasing in floodplain area, implementation of cover crops). This dataset contains all the monitoring data, model inputs (including parameterisation), and the model outputs. Moreover, it contains the R scripts with summary statistics and plotting and the summarised outputs of all model runs in csv files.  The dataset contains three folders.  1. The Geopatial Information folder contains all the geospatial data for both study catchments. These include land cover, soil, DEM, and finally the Soil Land Cover maps, which were used to build the HYPE models. The coding of the geospatial shapefiles and raster files can be found in the Readme document.  2. The HYPE_model folder contains all of the HYPE model building blocks necessary to run the calibrated model for Hestadb\u00e4cken and Tullstorp\u00e5n in seperate folders. In the discourse, land use change (LUC) has often been considered as negative, referring to impacts of deforestation and expansion of biomass plantations. However, strategic establishment of suitable perennial production systems in agricultural landscapes can mitigate environmental impacts of current crop production, while providing biomass for the bioeconomy.   Here, we explore the potential for such \u201cbeneficial LUC\u201d in EU28. First, we map and quantify the degree of accumulated soil organic carbon losses, soil loss by wind and water erosion, nitrogen emissions to water, and recurring floods, in \u223c81.000 individual landscapes in EU28. We then estimate the effectiveness in mitigating these impacts through establishment of perennial plants, in each landscape.   The results indicate that there is a substantial potential for effective impact mitigation. Depending on criteria selection, 10\u201346% of the land used for annual crop production in EU28 is located in landscapes that could be considered priority areas for beneficial LUC. These areas are scattered all over Europe, but there are notable \u201chot-spots\u201d where priority areas are concentrated, e.g., large parts of Denmark, western UK, The Po valley in Italy, and the Danube basin.
