Aplicamos la metodolog\u00eda Q para identificar diferentes perspectivas de los propietarios medianos y grandes sobre las Reservas Legales y su relaci\u00f3n con la intensificaci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola en el municipio de Paragominas, en la Amazon\u00eda oriental. Realizamos 31 entrevistas en las que los propietarios ordenaron 36 declaraciones en una matriz de distribuci\u00f3n casi normal. Se identificaron tres grupos de propietarios de tierras: 1) los entusiastas de la planificaci\u00f3n del uso de la tierra (n = 16) estaban interesados en iniciativas de zonificaci\u00f3n para explorar dise\u00f1os de paisajes alternativos y legislaci\u00f3n que puedan ofrecer mejores resultados de conservaci\u00f3n y producci\u00f3n; 2) los partidarios de la agricultura basada en agroqu\u00edmicos (n = 7) ten\u00edan los puntos de vista m\u00e1s cr\u00edticos contra las Reservas Legales y percib\u00edan sus costos como m\u00e1s altos que los posibles beneficios ambientales y de calidad de vida; 3) los respondedores del mercado complacientes con las pol\u00edticas (n = 4) no mostraron inter\u00e9s en las reformas de las Reservas Legales y fueron el grupo m\u00e1s impulsado por el mercado. Si bien Paragominas ha logrado \u00e9xitos notables en detener la deforestaci\u00f3n a gran escala a trav\u00e9s de un pacto social de 'Municipio Verde', abordar la persistente degradaci\u00f3n y fragmentaci\u00f3n de los bosques en la regi\u00f3n sigue siendo una prioridad clave. We evaluated current European Union soil-related legislation and examples of regional legislation with regard to direct and indirect impacts on five soil functions: the production of food, fiber, and fuel; water purification and regulation; carbon sequestration and climate regulation; habitat for biodiversity provisioning; and the recycling of nutrients/agro-chemicals. Our results illustrate the diversity of existing policies and the complex interactions present between different spatial and temporal scales. The impact of most policies, positive or negative, on a soil function is usually not established, but depends on how the policy is implemented by local authorities and the farmers. This makes it difficult to estimate the overall state and trends of the different soil functions in agricultural ecosystems. The social and environmental cost of soil degradation is estimated at EUR 50 billion per year in Europe alone, demonstrating the importance of soil in sustaining livelihoods, supporting biodiversity, and regulating the Earth's climate.1 To date, efforts to place a monetary value on the ecosystem services provided by healthy soil have been rare.2 It is crucial to reconsider the concept of healthy soil and to make the business community, politicians and public administration see soil as an investment opportunity for high quality services that are environmentally and resource friendly.Regulatory policies, legislative frameworks, financial instruments, and economic models are the key tools to promote and facilitate public and private investment in healthy soil. In particular, the review of the policy and legislative framework at different scales of government offers an opportunity to understand the mechanisms to encourage the maintenance and further diffusion of techniques that improve soil health. A greater understanding of the actual effects of policies and incentives on soil health will improve understanding of the effectiveness of policies and incentives to maintain and restore soil health and will also serve as a basis for developing and improving the implementation of soil health policies and certification schemes.The InBestSoil project aims to co-create a framework for investments in soil health preservation and restoration by developing a system for the economic valuation of the ecosystem services provided by healthy soil and the impacts of soil interventions, and its incorporation into business models and incentives. By analyzing policy requirements, barriers and enabling factors, as well as economic incentive programs aiming at sustainable soil management and preservation/restoration of soil health, the existing policies and economic incentives for soil health were reviewed through horizontal mapping and semi-structured interview mapping. The assessment of soil values has been done according to the soil valuation law (Bodensch\u00e4tzungsgesetz, BodSch\u00e4tzG) with an established method for mapping and evaluating the natural productivity of all agriculturally areas including arable and grassland in Germany. The soil quality estimates result in values that indicate the ratio of the productivity of the estimated to the most productive agricultural area with a maximum value of 100 for arable land and 88 for grassland.
