It is characterized by several experimental cycles with different cropping system comparisons. Soil tillage is the consistent factor since the start of the experiment. Crop rotation and irrigation were adjusted according to the research questions. Cycle 1 (2000-2006) investigated the potential of reducing soil tillage by comparing two cropping systems, one with and one without ploughing with different crops per system. Cycle 2 (2007-2018) investigated the potential to produce arable crops for biomass by comparing eight cropping systems. The factors were crop rotation, i) sole cropped maize every year and ii) 4-year rotation with one crop per year with maize-winter rye/sorghum-winter triticale-alfalfa clover grass mixture (all harvested for green biomass); soil tillage (ploughing and no-tillage); irrigation (rainfed and irrigated). Cycle 3 (2019-2023) investigated the potential of diversification comparing 16 cropping systems. The factors were rotation with all crops present every year (fully phased) with i) sole cropped maize, ii) sole cropped soybean, iii) maize-soybean sequence, and iv) maize-soybean-wheat-alfalfa clover grass mixture sequence); soil tillage (ploughing and reduced tillage); irrigation (rainfed and irrigated). The experimental cycles can be analyzed separately for specific research questions and for calibrating/validating models, and the long term effects of soil tillage, rotation and irrigation can be analyzed. The goal was to see how nutrient deficiencies affect soil fertility and harvest yields in sandy soils. In 1949, long-term field experiment D4 was split into two subfields: D41 and D42. Due to their different treatments, the datasets for these two subfields are available separately.\nD41 has maintained the same treatments since the beginning of the experiment, reducing the number to four replicates in 1949, so that D42 could be given an alternate treatment (further information in the field description for D42 https://doi.org/10.20387/bonares-eprk-bj95). \nSince 1957, the crop rotation has been potatoes - spring barley - silage corn \u2013 spring barley. In 1959 the accumulation of nematodes led to the decision to include silo corn (previously not farmed) to be included in the crop rotation extending the period between potato seasons to three years. The crop rotation continued afterwards according to the original plan.\nThe harvest plots in the geodata represent the standard harvest plots for root crops and grains, which have maintained their size since 2000 (excluding in 2018). The initiator of this series of trials was Eduard von Boguslawski, who also foundedthe international working group \"IOSDV\". The LTE \"IOSDV\" in Rauischholzhausen was later continued and managed by Bernd Honermeier (1996 - 2021).\n\nThe original idea of this LTE was to compare three farming systems (farm types), (1) system without organic fertilisation (simulating a cash crop farm), (2) system with organic fertilisation from livestock (farmyard manure, simulating a farm with livestock) and (3) system with organic fertilisation from plant residues (straw, catch crops and digestate from a biogas plant). The depth to which agricultural management practices affect SOM is uncertain. Soil depth can have an important influence on SOM dynamics, so it is important to consider depth effects to fully account for changes, particularly in soil organic C (SOC) stocks. This is particularly true when assessing C faming measures, which are becoming increasingly important due to climate change. We sampled and analysed the top metre of mineral arable soils from ten long-term experiments (LTEs) in Germany to quantify and qualify the depth-dependent effects on SOC stocks, C and nitrogen (N) content, the \u03b413C and \u03b415N signature and the C/N ratio of the soils due to common agricultural management practices: Mineral N fertilisation (only for SOC stocks), a combination of N, phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) fertilisation, irrigation, crop rotation with legumes, straw incorporation, farmyard manure (FYM) application, liming and reduced tillage. In addition, the effects of soil compaction (only for the SOC stocks) were analysed as a negative side-effect of agricultural management. Therefore, this vegetable long-term fertilization experiment can be used to investigate different plant-soil-systems under the same climatic conditions. The experimented was halted in 2022. The experimental site (52\u00b021\u201901.30\u2019\u2019 E, 13\u00b019\u201905.47\u2019\u2019 N, 50 m a.s.l.) is located in the transition zone between the more maritime-affected Northern German Plain and the continental climate of the European mainland. Weather data were collected in an agrometeorological station close to the experimental area. The long-term means (1991-2020) for air temperature and annual precipitation are 9.7 \u00b0C and 492 mm. The single plots are quadratic concrete boxes with walls of 10 cm thickness, a surface area of 4 m2 and a depth of 75 cm. The upper 50 cm are filled with the tested soils; the lower 25 cm comprises a coarse-sandy drainage layer. The three soil types are Arenic Luvisol (weak loamy sand), Gleyic Fluvisol (heavy sandy loam) and Luvic-Phaeozem (medium clayey silt) according to the World Reference Base \u2013 WRB (and the Bodenkundliche Kartieranleitung \u2013 KA4). Yield (grain, tuber, cereal straw) and N-content were determined at the end of the season, whereas biomass and N content and soil parameters were occasionally determined during the growing season. Since 2015 the soil water content was further assessed in nine plots (control and calcium ammonium nitrate treatments). The experimental site was founded in 1936 by Prof. Kurt Opitz is located about 30 kilometres south of Berlin. This site represents typical farming conditions of the young moraine landscapes of the Weichselian glaciation of Northeast Germany. According to the German classification of soil-climate spaces, the experimental site is located in the area of \u201cdry-warm diluvial soils of East German lowlands\u201d (diluvial: soils developed in glacial sediments). Within this area, soil values of the \u201cGerman soil taxation framework\u201d of less than 30 out of a maximum 100 are common.\nThyrow is located at approximately 42 m above sea level on the southern edge of the Teltow, a Weichselian ground moraine plateau. The slope is predominantly flat at 2 %. The dominant soil type for this is location is a Retisol developed in a sand over a deep loam. As typical for ground moraines the boundaries between the sandy and loamy layer vary intensely between 60 cm to 200 cm. This causes small-scale differences in water and nutrient resources especially of the subsoil. The plant available water capacity of the soil in the effective root zone (60 \u2013 80 cm deep) fluctuates between 50 to 150 mm. These soils are at high risk of nutrient leaching, acidification and surface siltation because of the low clay and humus content of the topsoil.\nDue to the soil\u2019s low water-holding capacity, the crop yields at the Thyrow Field Station show great fluctuations dependent on weather conditions. The climatic water balance during the growing period is negative and the overall low water availability at this location limits the crop yields. Mean annual temperature for the period 1991-2020 was measured to be 9.7\u00b0C, with annual precipitation 533 mm. Annual crop yields are particularly negatively affected by low precipitation from April to June.\nThe two areas that are managed by the research station are separated by the Thyrower Dorfstra\u00dfe (Landesstra\u00dfe 795). The main experimental area, where the long-term experiments are conducted, is located on the farm (Hof) side, along with two other trials for the implementation of field experiments. Northwest of the Landesstra\u00dfe there is another experimental area (Schlag 3), where other experiments are conducted to answer questions about differing agricultural systems, soil management,
