For the regional maps a different approach was used for agricultural land as compared to forest. The maps are based on digital soil mapping approaches using empirical models calibrated to predict the SOC stock and using covariates that are available at a sufficient resolution at the regional scale. All maps are strongly dependent on the Belgian Soil Map (texture and drainage parameters). The regional maps were compiled at a finer resolution (10m x 10m and 40m x 40m grid cells). Next they were joined (40m x 40m grid cells) and finally scaled up to the required 1 by 1 km grid cells. This was done using the following tools: block statistics (mean), mosaic to new raster (mean), project to raster, block statistics (mean), resample (nearest neighbour) and project raster. Given the different origins of the individual maps, the uncertainty varies between maps. For instance, a map of the 90% confidence interval of the SOC stocks was produced for agricultural soils in Wallonia based on a Monte Carlo Approach taking into account both the measurement and the model uncertainties. For Flemish forest soils, spatial and analytical uncertainties were taken into account using bootstrapping techniques. For Flemish agricultural soils, the uncertainty reported is the model uncertainty on point estimates for each data point, in which the estimated model parameters are simulated 1000 times as being independent normal distributed variables using their model estimation and standard error as distribution parameters. No additional uncertainty is taken into account for the conversion functions that use the stochastic variables \"bulk density\". The SOC stock maps are the first comprehensive map for Belgium integrating grasslands, croplands and forests. There are two versions of the SOC stock maps for Belgium: 1) resolution of 40m x 40m in the coordinate reference system Lambert72 and 2) resolution of 1km x 1km in the coordinate reference system WGS84. De bodemkaart geeft ruimtelijke informatie over de bodemopbouw tot globaal 1 meter diepte.  Deze informatie heeft betrekking op de aard en samenstelling van de bovengrond (grondsoort) met een verdere onderverdeling naar bodemvorming, veensoort, afwijkende lagen in het profiel en de aanwezigheid van kalk. \n\nActualisatie van de bodemkaart van de veengebieden was nodig omdat door oxidatie van organische stof bij de veengronden en moerige gronden verandering optreden, doordat oppervlakkig gelegen veenlagen geleidelijk verteren. Hierdoor kunnen veengronden veranderen in moerige gronden en moerige gronden in minerale gronden.\n\nSinds de eerste opname van de bodemkaart zijn er veel bebouwde terreinen bij gekomen door stadsuitbreiding en nieuwe industrieterreinen. Op de oorspronkelijke bodemkaart zijn de bebouwde gebieden van enige omvang apart aangegeven. Bij de actualisatie is voor de nieuw-bebouwde gebieden wel een bodemcode vastgesteld. In een apart bestand is de begrenzing van de huidige bebouwing opgenomen. In bebouwde gebieden kan de bodemopbouw afwijken van de bodemcode, doordat  bij het bouwrijpmaken ingrijpende grondverbeteringwerken zijn uitgevoerd. \n\nBij het gebruik van de gegevens dient men daar op bedacht te zijn. Daarnaast zijn bij veel gebieden in Nederland ingrijpende grondbewerking uitgevoerd. De oorspronkelijke bodemkaart bevatte een attribuut \"SCHOP\" waarin informatie werd gegeven over verstoring in het bodemprofiel. In 2010 zijn deze gebieden met ingrepen uitgebreid geinventariseerd en in kaart gebracht. Deze vergravingen zijn nu in een apart bestand opgenomen (vergraven gronden).\n\nDe actualisatie had betrekking op de gebieden met moerige gronden en dunne veengronden in Nederland en de veenweidegebieden met dikke veengronden in de provincie Friesland. In totaal is ca. 400 000 ha geactualiseerd. Met uitzondering van een fragment in ZuidOost-Drenthe is de actualisatie gerealiseerd met behulp van digitale bodemkartering (DBK). In ZuidOost-Drenthe is de actualisatie uitgevoerd door middel van een uitgebreide veldinventarisatie, zoals ook voor de eerste opname van de bodemkaart. The modelling was performed with the CN-WS model version 4.2.2 in combination with pycnws version 0.5.4. The calculation was done on a scale of Flanders at a resolution of 20 m. This data layer is an indication of the average sediment supply calculated with an average precipitation erosivity factor of the last 30 years. Scenario A was applied, whereby agricultural parcels are considered grassland when they have a permanent crop cover for at least 2 consecutive years. All other agricultural parcels are considered to be average arable land. The modelling is based on the 2020 agricultural parcel map. The erosion control measures implemented in 2020 through management agreements or through small-scale erosion control works were taken into account. Locally, the modelled values may differ from the real values, as each modelling is only an approximation of reality. All maps are strongly dependent on the Belgian Soil Map (texture and drainage parameters). The regional maps were compiled at a fine resolution (10m x 10m grid cells for Flanders and 40m x 40m grid cells for Wallonia). Next they were joined (40m x 40m grid cells). The regional maps for Flanders were scaled up to the 40m x 40m grid of Wallonia. Given the different origins of the individual maps, the uncertainty varies between maps. For instance, a map of the 90% confidence interval of the SOC stocks was produced for agricultural soils in Wallonia based on a Monte Carlo Approach taking into account both the measurement and the model uncertainties. For Flemish forest soils, spatial and analytical uncertainties were taken into account using bootstrapping techniques. For Flemish agricultural soils, the uncertainty reported is the model uncertainty on point estimates for each data point, in which the estimated model parameters are simulated 1000 times as being independent normal distributed variables using their model estimation and standard error as distribution parameters. No additional uncertainty is taken into account for the conversion functions that use the stochastic variables \"bulk density\". For the regional maps a different approach was used for agricultural land as compared to forest. The maps are based on digital soil mapping approaches using empirical models calibrated to predict the SOC stock and using covariates that are available at a sufficient resolution at the regional scale. All maps are strongly dependent on the Belgian Soil Map (texture and drainage parameters). The regional maps were compiled at a finer resolution (10m x 10m and 40m x 40m grid cells). Next they were joined (40m x 40m grid cells) and finally scaled up to the required 1 by 1 km grid cells. This was done using the following tools: block statistics (mean), mosaic to new raster (mean), project to raster, block statistics (mean), resample (nearest neighbour) and project raster.\nGiven the different origin of the individual maps, the uncertainty varies between maps. For instance, a map of the 90% confidence interval of the SOC stocks was produced for agricultural soils in Wallonia based on a Monte Carlo Approach taking into account both the measurement and the model uncertainties. For Flemish forest soils, spatial and analytical uncertainties were taken into account using bootstrapping techniques. For Flemish agricultural soils, the uncertainty reported is the model uncertainty on point estimates for each data point, in which the estimated model parameters are simulated 1000 times as being independent normal distributed variables using their model estimation and standard error as distribution parameters. No additional uncertainty is taken into account for the conversion functions that use the stochastic variables \"bulk density\".\nThe SOC stock maps are the first comprehensive map for Belgium integrating grasslands, croplands and forests. There are two versions of the SOC stock maps for Belgium: 1) resolution of 40m x 40m in the coordinate reference system Lambert72 and 2) resolution of 1km x 1km in the coordinate reference system WGS84. For the regional maps a different approach was used for agricultural land as compared to forest. The maps are based on digital soil mapping approaches using empirical models calibrated to predict the SOC stock and using covariates that are available at a sufficient resolution at the regional scale. All maps are strongly dependent on the Belgian Soil Map (texture and drainage parameters). The regional maps were compiled at a fine resolution (10m x 10m grid cells for Flanders and 40m x 40m grid cells for Wallonia). Next they were joined (40m x 40m grid cells). The regional maps for Flanders were scaled up to the 40m x 40m grid of Wallonia. Given the different origins of the individual maps, the uncertainty varies between maps. For instance, a map of the 90% confidence interval of the SOC stocks was produced for agricultural soils in Wallonia based on a Monte Carlo Approach taking into account both the measurement and the model uncertainties. For Flemish forest soils, spatial and analytical uncertainties were taken into account using bootstrapping techniques. For Flemish agricultural soils, the uncertainty reported is the model uncertainty on point estimates for each data point, in which the estimated model parameters are simulated 1000 times as being independent normal distributed variables using their model estimation and standard error as distribution parameters. No additional uncertainty is taken into account for the conversion functions that use the stochastic variables \"bulk density\". The metadata are available and allow assessing the uncertainties of the stock estimates in the different component maps. The SOC stock map (resolution of 40m x 40m) is the first comprehensive map for Belgium integrating grasslands, croplands and forests. For the regional maps a different approach was used for agricultural land as compared to forest. The maps are based on digital soil mapping approaches using empirical models calibrated to predict the SOC stock and using covariates that are available at a sufficient resolution at the regional scale. All maps are strongly dependent on the Belgian Soil Map (texture and drainage parameters). The regional maps were compiled at a finer resolution (10m x 10m and 40m x 40m grid cells). Next they were joined (40m x 40m grid cells) and finally scaled up to the required 1 by 1 km grid cells. This was done using the following tools: block statistics (mean), mosaic to new raster (mean), project to raster, block statistics (mean), resample (nearest neighbour) and project raster. Given the different origins of the individual maps, the uncertainty varies between maps. For instance, a map of the 90% confidence interval of the SOC stocks was produced for agricultural soils in Wallonia based on a Monte Carlo Approach taking into account both the measurement and the model uncertainties. For Flemish forest soils, spatial and analytical uncertainties were taken into account using bootstrapping techniques. For Flemish agricultural soils, the uncertainty reported is the model uncertainty on point estimates for each data point, in which the estimated model parameters are simulated 1000 times as being independent normal distributed variables using their model estimation and standard error as distribution parameters. No additional uncertainty is taken into account for the conversion functions that use the stochastic variables \"bulk density\". The SOC stock maps are the first comprehensive map for Belgium integrating grasslands, croplands and forests. There are two versions of the SOC stock maps for Belgium: 1) resolution of 40m x 40m in the coordinate reference system Lambert72 and 2) resolution of 1km x 1km in the coordinate reference system WGS84.
