From the prism of the sustainable development, reuse of the exhaused SBP contributed to closing material and energy flows. Finding a solution for the reuse of exhausted SBP transforms linear to circular bioeconomy on a micro level. Key role of the application of SBP as biosorbent for metal ions removal has surface of the biomaterial and their textural characteristics. Comprehensive analysis was conducted in this work regarding determining surface of the sugar beet pulp: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM-EDX), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Boehm titrations, and detecting the point of zero charge (pHpzc). The texture and surface of SBP were analyzed before and after the applied biosorption process of the removal of molassigenic metal ions (Na+, K+, Ca2+) from the alkalized sugar juice. From the results obtained after the FTIR analysis could be concluded that main centers for the metal ions exchange are carboxyl, hydroxyl and phenyl functional groups. The graph obtained after thermogravimetric analysis confirms presence of the cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin in the structure of the sugar beet pulp which are mainly constructed of the carboxyl groups. Higher presence of the acidic groups on the surface of the sugar beet pulp (1.61mmol/g), than the base (0.25mmol/g), also confirms presence of the acid functional groups, possible proton donors for the exchange with molassigenic metal cations. Aditionally, acidic groups detected by the Boehm titration at the surface of sugar beet pulp after the applied biosorption process is smaller than before the process (1.10mmol/g). The pH working environment in which is conducted experiment (10.5) is convenient for the successful reduction of the present metal ions in alkalized juice, due to the negatively charged surface of the sugar beet pulp in the pH range higher than 10, whereas pHpzc is 6.4. During this biosorption process morphological structure regarding the density of shrinks, cracks and surface smoothness is not changed at the significant level according to SEM micrographs. EDX used as detector, additionaly confirmed increase in the amount of Na+, K+, Ca2+ after the biosorption process at the surface of the sugar beet pulp. Therefore, SBP has appropriate surface structure suitable for the metal ions removal and at the same time process is not harmful to the environment and minimizes the depletion of this by-product from the sugar refinery.", "keywords": ["textural analysis", "8. This work reviewed seven important European LCA studies in a sensitivity analysis approach in order to get a better understanding of the roots of such a debate for three major biofuels in European production: rape methyl ester and ethanol from wheat and sugar beet. Global trends and variability of energy and GHG balances were depicted and completed with a sensitivity analysis carried out for each methodological and data parameter, which allowed making recommendations on the carrying out of LCA in a policy-making or a biofuels comparison context. The influence of local specificity for cultivation data was evaluated up to 167%, which puts too large geographical coverage in question. Modelling uncertainties due to N2O emissions from soils showed influences from 17 to 46%, which represents a crucial challenge for research and for LCA results accuracy. Approximations evaluation pointed out the need to integrate agricultural machinery into the assessment. In this investigation the application of unmodified sugar beet pulp as a weak monofunctional cation-exchange biosorbent for molassigenic metal ions (Na+, K+ and Ca2+) removal from the alkalized sugar juice was studied. The batch biosorption experiments were performed at temperature (70 \u00b0C) and pH (10.5) of alkalized sugar juice similar to industrial conditions. The highest removal efficiency was noticed for divalent Ca2+ (30.2%), while monovalent Na+ and K+ ions were removed with 10.9 and 9.1% efficiency, respectively. Biosorption equilibrium was established in 90 min for all tested metals. Sugar beet pulp characterization from the perspective of cation-exhange material was conducted. The structure of the biosorbent and an insight of the functional groups were also characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The biosorption data were analyzed using four non-linear kinetic (pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and Elovich) and diffusion models (Weber-Morris). The time course data of biosorption processes fitted well to the pseudo-first and the pseudo-second-order kinetic models indicating ion-exchange and chemisorption as dominant mechanisms for metal ions removal from the alkalized juice. HNO3 as a desorption reagent showed the highest average molassigenic metal ions desorption efficiency (54.4%). We evaluated the model performance of NDVI-based random forest models for sugar beet and potato farm yields in northern Belgium during 2016\u20132018. We also evaluated whether weather variables and root-zone soil water depletion during the growing season improved the model performance. The NDVI integral did not explain early and late potato yield variability and only partly explained sugar-beet yield variability. The NDVI series of early and late potato crops were not sensitive enough to yield affecting weather and soil water conditions. We found that water-saturated conditions early in the growing season and elevated temperatures late in the growing season explained a large part of the sugar-beet and late-potato yield variability. The soil is divided into horizons as follows: Arable topsoil (up to 25 cm depth), humic lime-free horizon (up to 40 cm depth), calcareous mixed horizon (up to 60 cm depth) and calcareous loess (up to 125 cm depth). In a block design experiment with four replicates, the test factors irrigation with two levels and fertilization with three levels were studied. Intensive holistic data collection on the most important plant and soil parameters was carried out at weekly intervals until final harvest at the end of September. In the case of sugar beet plant, the fresh and dry biomasses of the leaf and the body and some plant contents such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium contents as well as sugar and ash contents were measured or determined. In addition some  ontogenesis and stand density parameters were observed. Soil parameters such as nitrogen, soil water, pH as well as phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and sodium contents were measured for two 25 cm soil layers up to a soil depth of 0.5 m. The meteorological variables temperature and precipitation were registered to a daily accuracy and aggregated to monthly values. From the prism of the sustainable development, reuse of the exhaused SBP contributed to closing material and energy flows. Finding a solution for the reuse of exhausted SBP transforms linear to circular bioeconomy on a micro level. Key role of the application of SBP as biosorbent for metal ions removal has surface of the biomaterial and their textural characteristics. Comprehensive analysis was conducted in this work regarding determining surface of the sugar beet pulp: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM-EDX), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Boehm titrations, and detecting the point of zero charge (pHpzc). The texture and surface of SBP were analyzed before and after the applied biosorption process of the removal of molassigenic metal ions (Na+, K+, Ca2+) from the alkalized sugar juice. From the results obtained after the FTIR analysis could be concluded that main centers for the metal ions exchange are carboxyl, hydroxyl and phenyl functional groups. The graph obtained after thermogravimetric analysis confirms presence of the cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin in the structure of the sugar beet pulp which are mainly constructed of the carboxyl groups. Higher presence of the acidic groups on the surface of the sugar beet pulp (1.61mmol/g), than the base (0.25mmol/g), also confirms presence of the acid functional groups, possible proton donors for the exchange with molassigenic metal cations. Aditionally, acidic groups detected by the Boehm titration at the surface of sugar beet pulp after the applied biosorption process is smaller than before the process (1.10mmol/g). The pH working environment in which is conducted experiment (10.5) is convenient for the successful reduction of the present metal ions in alkalized juice, due to the negatively charged surface of the sugar beet pulp in the pH range higher than 10, whereas pHpzc is 6.4. During this biosorption process morphological structure regarding the density of shrinks, cracks and surface smoothness is not changed at the significant level according to SEM micrographs. EDX used as detector, additionaly confirmed increase in the amount of Na+, K+, Ca2+ after the biosorption process at the surface of the sugar beet pulp.
