The data was prepared according to the methodology of SERENA SOC loss cookbook. The objective of SERENA project was to develop methods to calculate and map soil-based ecosystem services and soil threats. Soil organic carbon concentration was used as an indicator for soil organic carbon loss (ST). The map was based on digital soil mapping according to the method used in the EJP SOIL project WP6: Digital soil mapping approach with random forest using ISRIC workflow seedling. To create the soil organic carbon concentration map, we used soil organic carbon data of the regional soil organic carbon monitoring network Cmon in Flanders (0-10 and 10-30 cm soil layer). The soil organic carbon concentration of the 0-20 cm was derived from the 0-10 and 10-30 cm data. The following auxiliary data was used: Digital soil map of the Flemish Region: soil types; Regional climate data; Land use - Flanders - state 2022; Tertiary geological map (1/50,000); Ground cover map (BBK), 1m resolution, recording 2021; WRB Soil Units 40k: Soil map of the Flemish Region according to the international soil classification system World Reference Base on a scale of 1:40,000; The dataset will be mostly useful as a reference result for actors that want to learn to implement the part of the soil organic carbon loss cookbook of SERENA dealing with the creation of a SOC concentration map. It can have limited use as an interim SOC concentration map for Flanders until a better map becomes available using an optimised methodology and/or new data from the regional soil organic carbon monitoring network that was not yet available when this map was created.
["akker", "be", "bebouwde-omgeving", "belgium", "bodem", "bos", "concentratie-[waarde]", "d3.3-wp3-task-3.2", "databank-ondergrond-vlaanderen", "departement-omgeving", "digital-soil-mapping", "dov", "ejpsoil", "flanders", "grant-n-862695", "grasland", "koolstof", "ondergrond", "serena", "soc", "socloss", "soil-organic-carbon-concentration", "vlaanderen
["creator
https://org.belgif.be/id/CbeEstablishmentUnit/2143719695
publisher
https://metadata.vlaanderen.be/srv/dut/catalog.search#/metadata/fed8a456-ec10-4a92-8764-5798719b8d76
https://www.vlaanderen.be/DataCatalogRecord/fed8a456-ec10-4a92-8764-5798719b8d76
http://data.europa.eu/88u/dataset/836f001d-da7e-489a-bf8b-fb798be61231
https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main/items/836f001d-da7e-489a-bf8b-fb798be61231
Open AccessTabla de INEbase Personal investigador en I+D interna, en EJC, por año y sectores/unidad. Subaqueous spreading is observed on gently inclined surfaces (typically <3◦) when sediment bodies experience a sudden reduction of shear strength along their basal plane during clay softening or liquefaction of sands or silty sand sediment. Historically, spreading has been associated with very large landslides, but many unknown aspects of these mass movements have yet to be clarified. Does spreading influences the large catastrophic failure? What are the sedimentological and morphological aspects that contribute in initiating this process? These are some of the research questions that spurred the present work. Here, we introduce a database that incorporates information from thirty-two case studies, and use this to provide key insights into the sedimentary and morphological aspects of subaqueous spreading that will assist in the identification of spreading elsewhere. We find that subaqueous spreading is most common along passive glacial margins, but is also observed along active margins. The occurrence of contourites interlayered with glaciogenic deposits is, in most cases, associated with landslides (or landslide complexes) with spreading morphology. The database shows that seismic loading is commonly suggested to be the dominant trigger mechanism, although more geotechnical observations and modelling analysis would be needed to support this conclusion. We compare subaqueous spreading with terrestrial spreading, in particular to earthquake-related lateral spreading and clay landslides. We find that subaqueous spreading shares the same driving processes and potentially also some of the trigger mechanisms that are associated with the terrestrial spreading cases. Future work will be required to address the association between spreading and its occurrence on some of the largest landslides on Earth, its development mechanism, and its potential hazard implications.
13. Therefore, STs and SESs require to be assessed using explicit and appropriate methodologies. Indicators are suitable communications tools with stakeholders and the general public because they facilitate the simplification of complex human-environmental systems and provide aggregated information on certain phenomena at the spatial and temporal scale that they represent. Task 2.3 of the SERENA project was aimed at developing harmonised methodologies to evaluate bundles of soil threats (STs) and soil-based ecosystem services (SESs) at different levels. The Deliverable 2.3.1 developed the second step of the harmonization of STs and SESs indicators, whereas this deliverable developed the third step of the global tiered strategy for harmonisation and was mainly focused on the definition of methods for the harmonised assessment of indicators of STs and SESs at the member state (MS) level. The deliverable was focused on soil erosion (ST) and soil erosion control (SES), soil organic carbon (SOC) loss (ST), greenhouse gas (GHG) and climate regulation (SES), and soil sealing (ST) as well as a bundle of STs/SESs. Different cookbooks were developed to provide harmonized approaches/methods for assessing indicators for STs/SESs at national scale. These climatic grids do not reflect conditions below vegetation canopies and near the ground surface, where critical ecosystem functions occur and most terrestrial species reside. Here, we provide global maps of soil temperature and bioclimatic variables at a 1-km(2) resolution for 0-5 and 5-15 cm soil depth. These maps were created by calculating the difference (i.e. offset) between in situ soil temperature measurements, based on time series from over 1200 1-km(2) pixels (summarized from 8519 unique temperature sensors) across all the world's major terrestrial biomes, and coarse-grained air temperature estimates from ERA5-Land (an atmospheric reanalysis by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts). We show that mean annual soil temperature differs markedly from the corresponding gridded air temperature, by up to 10 degrees C (mean = 3.0 +/- 2.1 degrees C), with substantial variation across biomes and seasons. Over the year, soils in cold and/or dry biomes are substantially warmer (+3.6 +/- 2.3 degrees C) than gridded air temperature, whereas soils in warm and humid environments are on average slightly cooler (-0.7 +/- 2.3 degrees C). The observed substantial and biome-specific offsets emphasize that the projected impacts of climate and climate change on near-surface biodiversity and ecosystem functioning are inaccurately assessed when air rather than soil temperature is used, especially in cold environments. The global soil-related bioclimatic variables provided here are an important step forward for any application in ecology and related disciplines. Nevertheless, we highlight the need to fill remaining geographic gaps by collecting more in situ measurements of microclimate conditions to further enhance the spatiotemporal resolution of global soil temperature products for ecological applications.
Technology and Engineering", "soil temperature", "Biology and Life Sciences", "soil-dwelling organisms", "SNOW-COVER", "MITIGATION", "MOISTURE", "FOREST", "weather stations", "LITTER DECOMPOSITION", "PERMAFROST", "near-surface temperatures", "PLANT-RESPONSES", "bioclimatic variables", "CLIMATIC CONTROLS", "Earth and Environmental Sciences", "temperature offset", "SUITABILITY", "global maps", "MICROCLIMATE", "CBCE", "microclimate
https://doi.org/50|od_______330::f4436e280ea4dbf5c31d9cc8ac41463b
https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main/items/50|od_______330::f4436e280ea4dbf5c31d9cc8ac41463b
Microfluidic study in a meter-long reactive path reveals how the medium's structural heterogeneity shapes MICP-induced biocementation
This folder includes processed images and image analysis algorithm for the publication 'Microfluidic study in a meter-long reactive path reveals how the medium’s structural heterogeneity shapes MICP-induced biocementation'. The scenarios incorporate NEP calculations from the SERENA project’s GHG Cookbook, which integrates MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) terrestrial primary productivity data with spatially explicit climate variables, such as average temperatures (derived from minimum and maximum daily temperatures) and soil volumetric moisture content. The baseline NEP layer for this analysis was derived from the GHG Cookbook’s 8-day NEP calculation for April 24 to May 1, 2014. This study specifically mapped NEP values in wheat fields within Peipsiääre municipality, Estonia, under the RCP4.5 scenario for the future periods 2041–2070 and 2071–2100. The findings provide initial insights into NEP scenario modeling related to climate change, indicating that more advanced analyses would be advantageous for refining the methodology. Furthermore, incorporating Estonia’s specific pedoclimatic conditions and considering the dynamics of terrestrial primary productivity within the datasets would greatly improve the accuracy of projections. These climatic grids do not reflect conditions below vegetation canopies and near the ground surface, where critical ecosystem functions occur and most terrestrial species reside. Here, we provide global maps of soil temperature and bioclimatic variables at a 1-km2 resolution for 0–5 and 5–15 cm soil depth. These maps were created by calculating the difference (i.e. offset) between in situ soil temperature measurements, based on time series from over 1200 1-km2 pixels (summarized from 8519 unique temperature sensors) across all the world's major terrestrial biomes, and coarse-grained air temperature estimates from ERA5-Land (an atmospheric reanalysis by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts). We show that mean annual soil temperature differs markedly from the corresponding gridded air temperature, by up to 10°C (mean = 3.0 ± 2.1°C), with substantial variation across biomes and seasons. Over the year, soils in cold and/or dry biomes are substantially warmer (+3.6 ± 2.3°C) than gridded air temperature, whereas soils in warm and humid environments are on average slightly cooler (−0.7 ± 2.3°C). Nevertheless, we highlight the need to fill remaining geographic gaps by collecting more in situ measurements of microclimate conditions to further enhance the spatiotemporal resolution of global soil temperature products for ecological applications.
near-surface temperatures", "bioclimatic variables", "soil temperature", "13. The French agricultural sector can contribute as a carbon sink through carbon storage in biomass and soil, in addition to reducing GHG emissions. The objective of this study is to quantitatively assess the additional storage potential and cost of a set of eight carbon-storing practices. The impacts of these agricultural practices on soil organic carbon storage and crop production are assessed at a very fine spatial scale, using crop and grassland models. The associated area base, GHG budget, and implementation costs are assessed and aggregated at the region level. The economic model BANCO uses this information to derive the marginal abatement cost curve for France and identify the combination of carbon storing practices that minimizes the total cost of achieving a given national net GHG mitigation target. We find that a substantial amount of carbon, 36.2 to 52.9 MtCO2e yr−1, can be stored in soil and biomass for reasonable carbon prices of 55 and 250 € tCO2e−1, respectively (corresponding to current and 2030 French carbon value for climate action), mainly by developing agroforestry and hedges, generalising cover crops, and introducing or extending temporary grasslands in crop sequences. This finding questions the 3–5 times lower target of 10 MtCO2e.yr−1 retained for the agricultural carbon sink by the French climate neutrality strategy. Overall, this would decrease total French GHG emissions by 9.2–13.8%, respectively (reference year 2019).
2. They play a key role in providing sustainable life on Earth, meeting the needs of humans and regulating several environmental processes. The United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the related 17 Goals include a commitment to the preservation of soil quality. However, the adopted indicators lack the measurement of a key nutrient: nitrogen. The aim of this paper is to call for the integration of two nitrogen indexes to measure soil quality and to present a worked example of geospatial technologies applied to nitrogen monitoring, aiding in farmland management and decision-making. Due to their inherent time/location precision, remote sensing data can provide insight in predicting the impact of agricultural practices and optimise their application.
2. Hydrocarbon decontamination techniques entail a high cost, imply in many cases their off-site treatment, and entail environmental risks. In contrast, the use of microbiological techniques through the addition of microbial consortia with the capacity to degrade these contaminants, are alternatives for soil biorecovery that are gathering growing interest in the construction of biopiles or ecopiles. However, for an effective application of these biotechnological techniques, it is necessary to guarantee an effectiveness in the action of these microbial consortia, whose persistence in soil is generally low. In this work, the stabilization of a microbial consortium specialized in the degradation of hydrocarbons and isolated from the own soil, has been studied through its immobilization on two classes biochars obtained form apricot stones at pyrolysis temperatures of 450° and 650°C, respectively, as well as the increase of its efficiency rate through the addition of rhamnolipids. The introduced microbial consortium achieved a degradation of 17% of the highest molecular weight hydrocarbons, an efficiency that was increased with the application of biochar and rhamnolipids up to 25% of their initial content.
total petroleum hydrocarbons", "bioremediation", "biochar", "polluted soils", "rhamnolipids
Curiel Alegre, Sandra, Velasco-Arroyo, Blanca, Martínez, Andrea, Rumbo, Carlos, Tamayo-Ramos, Juan Antonio, Khan, Aqib A.H., Rad, Carlos, Barros, Rocío,
creator
https://doi.org/50|od_______616::f7c80f8dd6460d4234bb717e3a1e29b0
related
https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main/items/Revista%20de%20Ci%C3%AAncias%20Agr%C3%A1rias
https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main/items/50|od_______616::f7c80f8dd6460d4234bb717e3a1e29b0
Research in global change ecology relies heavily on global climatic grids derived from estimates of air temperature in open areas at around 2 m above the ground. These climatic grids do not reflect conditions below vegetation canopies and near the ground surface, where critical ecosystem functions occur and most terrestrial species reside. Here, we provide global maps of soil temperature and bioclimatic variables at a 1-km² resolution for 0–5 and 5–15 cm soil depth. These maps were created by calculating the difference (i.e., offset) between in-situ soil temperature measurements, based on time series from over 1200 1-km² pixels (summarized from 8500 unique temperature sensors) across all the world’s major terrestrial biomes, and coarse-grained air temperature estimates from ERA5-Land (an atmospheric reanalysis by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts). We show that mean annual soil temperature differs markedly from the corresponding gridded air temperature, by up to 10°C (mean = 3.0 ± 2.1°C), with substantial variation across biomes and seasons. Over the year, soils in cold and/or dry biomes are substantially warmer (+3.6 ± 2.3°C) than gridded air temperature, whereas soils in warm and humid environments are on average slightly cooler (-0.7 ± 2.3°C). Nevertheless, we highlight the need to fill remaining geographic gaps by collecting more in-situ measurements of microclimate conditions to further enhance the spatiotemporal resolution of global soil temperature products for ecological applications.
VDP::Matematikk og naturvitenskap: 400::Zoologiske og botaniske fag: 480", "VDP::Mathematics and natural scienses: 400::Zoology and botany: 480
Lembrechts, Jonas J., van den Hoogen, Johan, Aalto, Juha, Ashcroft, Michael B., De Frenne, Pieter, Kemppinen, Julia, Kopecký, Martin, Luoto, Miska, Maclean, Ilya M. In this work, two different kinds of proximal soil sensing techniques i.e., mid-infrared (MIR) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy were evaluated, for assessment of seven fertility attributes. These soil attributes include pH, organic carbon (OC), phosphorous (P), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca) and moisture contents (MC). Three kinds of spectra fusion (SF) (spectra concatenation) approaches of MIR and XRF spectra were compared, namely, spectra fusion-Partial least square (SF-PLS), spectra fusion-Sequential Orthogonalized Partial least square (SF-SOPLS) and spectra fusion-Variable Importance Projection-Sequential Orthogonalized Partial least square (SF-VIP-SOPLS). Furthermore, the performance of SF models was compared with the developed single sensor model (based on individual spectra of MIR and XRF). Compared with the results obtained from single sensor model, SF models showed improvement in the prediction performance for all studied attributes, except for OC, Mg, and K prediction. More specifically, the highest improvement was observed with SF-SOPLS model for pH [R2p = 0.90, root mean square error prediction (RMSEP) = 0.15, residual prediction deviation (RPD) = 3.30, and ratio of performance inter-quantile (RPIQ) = 3.59], successively followed by P (R2p = 0.91, RMSEP = 4.45 mg/100 g, RPD = 3.53, and RPIQ = 4.90), Ca (R2p = 0.92, RMSEP = 177.11 mg/100 g, RPD = 3.66, and RPIQ = 3.22) and MC (R2p = 0.80, RMSEP = 1.91%, RPD = 2.31, RPIQ = 2.62). Overall the study concluded that SF approach with SOPLS attained better performance over the traditional model developed with the single sensor spectra, hence, SF is recommended as the best SF method for improving the prediction accuracy of studied soil attributes. Moreover, the multi-sensor spectra fusion approach is not limited for only MIR and XRF data but in general can be extended for complementary information fusion in order to improve the model performance in precision agriculture (PA) applications.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering", "Biochemistry", "Instrumentation", "Atomic and Molecular Physics", " and Optics", "Analytical Chemistry
["creator
https://doi.org/50|userclaim___::30592d0c330e6c206aa54bf98d50d122
https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main/items/50|userclaim___::30592d0c330e6c206aa54bf98d50d122
Bewertungskriterien zu sechs Bodenfunktionen auf Grundlage der Blockkarte 1 : 50.000 (ISU50, Raumbezug Umweltatlas 2010), Bearbeitungsstand Dezember 2017
["archivfunktion", "berlin", "boden", "bodenfunktion", "böden", "de", "ertragsfunktion", "filterfunktion", "geodaten", "kulturpflanzen", "lebensraumfunktion", "leistungsfähigkeit", "naturgeschichte", "naturnah", "open-data", "opendata", "pflanzengesellschaften", "pufferfunktion", "regelungsfunktion", "selten", "umweltatlas", "wasserhaushalt
["creator
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wfs/ua_boden_3_2015?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=wfs
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wfs/ua_boden_austauschh_2015?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=wfs
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wfs/ua_boden_bindung_2015?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=wfs
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wfs/ua_boden_kohlenstoffpuffer_2015?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=wfs
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wfs/ua_boden_naehrstoff_2015?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=wfs
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wfs/ua_boden_naturnaehe_2015?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=wfs
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wfs/ua_boden_schadstoff_2015?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=wfs
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wfs/ua_boden_seltenheit_2015?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=wfs
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wfs/ua_boden_wasserversorgung_2015?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&SERVICE=wfs
http://data.europa.eu/88u/dataset/51022e98-12ab-47dd-897e-5d24136679d1
https://repository.soilwise-he.eu/cat/collections/metadata:main/items/51022e98-12ab-47dd-897e-5d24136679d1
Open AccessThis dataset is part of Deliverable 5.3 and was produced by the WP4 team of the Landmark H2020 project. The spatial variation is represented in change in z-scores compared to the current SF supply. To develop the scenario, current nutrient applications in areas where concentrations in ground water are above 50 mg nitrates per liter (mg/L), were decreased in order to reach the 50 mg /L level. The excess organic nutrient surplus was then redistributed on other fields within a range of 35km, 100km or no distance limitation, which can receive additional nutrients without exceeding the 50 mg N /L threshold for each location. Excess nutrient surpluses were allowed or not to cross borders and no increases in N application were allowed in Natura 2000 sites. Z-scores are calculated from the spatial SF maps. Environmental zones are derived from the Metzger et al. (2013). The z-scores give the signed fractional number of standard deviations by which SF means for an environmental zone are above or below the mean value and allow us indicate which areas have a higher or lower soil function performance compared to the mean value. Z-scores from the current SF maps and scenario maps were then compared to each other to calculate the change in z-scores. This change in z-scores is given in the shapefiles and describes the relative change in soil function performance. It contains the following shapefiles: PO2_GAEC9_05.shp PO2_GAEC9_10.shp Both shapefiles give an estimation of the change in six soil function performance across the EU in agricultural soils after implementation of the GAEC9 under the proposed CAP to reach 5% or 10% fallow land. This spatial variation is represented in change in z-scores compared to the current supply. The presence of fallow land is evaluated on a NUTS1 level. In the regions where the target of fallow land is not reached, productive arable land is converted into low-productive grassland to reach the 5% or 10% goal. This scenario allows us to evaluate the effect of GAEC5 on the different soil functions. The soil functions are then mapped by applying a number of crop specific Bayesian networks on a combination of spatial maps which describe soil properties, climate, adapted land use and land management on agricultural soils throughout the European Union. Z-scores are calculated from the spatial SF maps for each of the NUTS1 zones. The z-scores give the signed fractional number of standard deviations by which SF means for an environmental zone are above or below the mean value and allow us indicate which areas have a higher or lower soil function performance compared to the mean value.
