However, the precise relationships between soil properties and microbial diversity are poorly known. Here, we study the effect of agricultural management on soil microbial diversity and C turnover in tropical grassland of north-eastern Laos. Three years after native grassland conversion into agricultural land, we compared soils from five land use management systems: one till versus two no-till rotational cropping systems, one no-till improved pasture and the natural grassland. Soils were incubated in microcosms during 64 days at optimum temperature and humidity. Bacterial and fungal diversity were evaluated by metagenomic 454-pyrosequencing of 16S and 18SrRNA genes, respectively. Changes in soil respiration patterns were evaluated by monitoring 12C- and 13C-CO2 release after soil amendment with 13C-labelled wheat residues. Results show that residue mineralization increased with bacterial richness and diversity in the tilled treatment 7 days after soil amendment. Native soil organic C mineralization and priming effect increased with fungal richness and diversity in improved pasture and natural grassland. No-till cropping systems represented intermediate situations between tillage and pasture systems. Our findings evidence the potential of controlling soil microbial diversity by agricultural practices to improve soil biological properties. Parmi ces param\u00e8tres, le carbone organique des sols, qui constitue plus de 50% de la masse de la mati\u00e8re organique du sol, est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l'indicateur principal de la qualit\u00e9 des sols, \u00e0 la fois pour ses fonctions agricoles et environnementales.\n\nLa pr\u00e9sente couche de donn\u00e9es constitue la cartographie des teneurs en carbone organique total (COT) pour les sols sous cultures et prairies permanentes en R\u00e9gion wallonne pour une p\u00e9riode comprise entre 2004 et 2014. La couche a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e par m\u00e9thode de mod\u00e9lisation spatiale d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e par l'UCL dans le cadre de la convention CARBIOSOL.\n\nPour plus de d\u00e9tails sur la constitution des couches cartographiques g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es dans le cadre du projet CARBIOSOL, veuillez-vous r\u00e9f\u00e9rer \u00e0 la fiche de m\u00e9tadonn\u00e9es documentant la s\u00e9rie de couches de donn\u00e9es.\n\nEn chaque pixel, la teneur en carbone organique total (COT) est exprim\u00e9e en gramme de carbone par kilogramme de terre fine s\u00e8che (gC/kg). Le r\u00e9sultat en sortie du mod\u00e8le est une couche raster des teneurs en COT \u00e0 90 m\u00e8tres de r\u00e9solution et spatialement continue sur le territoire agricole wallon.\n\nLes teneurs moyennes en COT observ\u00e9es pour les sols (horizons de surface) sous cultures et prairies permanentes sur la p\u00e9riode 2004-2014 \u00e9taient de 1.30 gC/kg et 3.61 gC/kg respectivement, d\u2019apr\u00e8s la base de donn\u00e9es REQUASUD.\n\nSur cette m\u00eame p\u00e9riode, 22 % des superficies sous cultures pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs en COT < 1.15 gC kg-1 et 73 % pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs < 1.5 gC/kg. Ce mod\u00e8le a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 pour chaque type d'occupation du sol d'int\u00e9r\u00eat (cultures et prairies permanentes). \n\nPour chaque occupation du sol, un Mod\u00e8le Additif G\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9 (GAM pour Generalised Additive Model) a \u00e9t\u00e9 ajust\u00e9 sur un jeu de calibration contenant deux tiers des points d'observation concern\u00e9s. For this reason, we have carried out a thirty-two-year-old long-term trial in Kabete, Kenya. These soils were treated with organic (maize stover (MS) at 10 t ha\u22121, farmyard manure (FYM) at 10 t ha\u22121) and inorganic fertilizers 120 kg N, 52.8 kg P (N2P2), N2P2 + MS, N2P2 + FYM, a control, and a fallow for over 30 years. We examined 16S rRNA gene and 28S rRNA gene fingerprints of bacterial and fungal diversity by PCR amplification and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis separation, respectively. The PCR bacterial community structure and diversity were negatively affected by N2P2 and were more closely related to the bacterial structure in the soils without any addition (control) than that of soils with a combination of inorganic and organic or inorganic fertilizers alone. The effect on fungal diversity by N2P2 was different than the effect on bacterial diversity since the fungal diversity was similar to that of the N2P2 + FYM and N2P2 + MS-treated. However, soils treated with organic inputs clustered away from soils amended with inorganic inputs. Organic inputs had a positive effect on both bacterial and fungal diversity with or without chemical fertilizers. P-fertilization resulted in higher abundance of targeted bacterial phyla, whole bacterial and fungal communities, and depressed mycorrhizal colonization of durum wheat, but not faba bean. This experiment was carried out for 15 months with a maize- tomato emaize cycle under greenhouse conditions in Northern Vietnam. It showed a positive influence of compost and vermicompost on soil microbial properties, with higher cultivable bacteria, higher bacterial and catabolic diversity (Shannon diversity 'H' and Richness 'S') indices and higher enzymatic activities than control soils which only received mineral fertilizers. Differences also occurred between compost and vermicompost with lower activity and diversity in the soil amended with vermicompost, probably because of its higher molecular stability. This study aimed at evaluating in field mesocosms the effects of earthworms on SOM dynamics and aggregation, as influenced by residue quality and management.  In the highlands of Madagascar, buckets were filled with 2\u00a0mm-sieved clayey Inceptisol. The effects of earthworm addition (Pontoscolex corethrurus), residue addition (rice, soybean, and no addition), and localization of the residues (mulched or buried) were studied. After 5 months, soil from mesocosms with earthworms had significantly lower C concentration and higher proportion of large water-stable macroaggregates (>2000\u00a0\u03bcm) than those without earthworms, because of the production of large macroaggregates by earthworms. Earthworm effect on soil aggregation was greater with rice than with soybean residues. Casts (extracted from mesocosms with earthworms) were slightly enriched in C and showed significantly higher mineralization than the non-ingested soil (NIS), showing that at the time scale of our study, the carbon contained in the casts was not protected against mineralization. No difference in microbial biomass was found between casts and NIS. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that intercropping could promote P cycling, through microbial biomass P (MBP) changes, in a field trial in a Mediterranean climate. Changes in microbial biomass carbon (MBC), MBP, and inorganic P availability in the rhizosphere of intercropped species were thus investigated in durum wheat/chickpea and durum wheat/lentil intercrops and compared to the bulk soils as well as the rhizosphere of each species grown alone. When expressed relative to the bulk soil, MBC increased in the rhizosphere only for the intercropped plants, irrespective of species. Relative to MBC in the rhizosphere of sole crops, MBC increased in the rhizosphere of the two legume species when intercropped with durum wheat, while no such effect was found for durum wheat. We were unable to detect an increase in P availability in the rhizosphere as a response to intercropping in any of the three crop species, but there was a systematic increase in available P in the rhizosphere relative to the corresponding bulk soil. Fairly similar patterns were observed for MBP as for MBC, except within the rhizosphere of durum wheat when intercropped with chickpea: relative to the bulk soil, MBP increased in the rhizosphere of both lentil and chickpea when intercropped with durum wheat as well as in the rhizosphere of durum wheat when intercropped with chickpea. The differences in microbial biomass changes for a given cereal (durum wheat) when intercropped with two different legumes, suggest that plants have strong species-specific influences on each other as well as on the soil environment. The molar ratios of MBC to MBP (MM C:P) did not vary significantly except for the rhizosphere of durum wheat intercropped with chickpea, which was fairly low (16:1), about half the values found in the other treatments (26\u201340:1). These MM C:P values were lower than those generally reported in soils (38\u201360:1), verifying the hypothesis that microbes can increase storage of soil P in their biomass, creating stocks of microbial P in the soil when P availability is high. In this Mediterranean climate where surface soils undergo frequent drying-rewetting, known for liberation of microbial biomass, MBP could be an important factor influencing P availability. Le stock de COT est calcul\u00e9 suivant une relation consid\u00e9rant i) la profondeur d'\u00e9chantillonnage (m), ii) la teneur en carbone organique total (COT - %C) dans le sol, iii) la proportion volumique en \u00e9l\u00e9ments grossiers et iv) la densit\u00e9 apparente de l'horizon (kg/cm\u00b3).\n\n- les co-variables environnementales : l'altitude, les temp\u00e9ratures et pr\u00e9cipitations, l'occupation du sol, des param\u00e8tres connus des sols (classe de drainage naturel, fractions granulom\u00e9triques, etc.). La couche a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e par m\u00e9thode de mod\u00e9lisation spatiale d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e par l'UCLouvain dans le cadre de la convention CARBIOSOL puis transmise \u00e0 REQUASUD pour le traitement des donn\u00e9es 2015-2019.\n\nPour plus de d\u00e9tails sur la constitution des couches cartographiques g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es dans le cadre du projet CARBIOSOL, veuillez-vous r\u00e9f\u00e9rer \u00e0 la fiche de m\u00e9tadonn\u00e9es documentant la s\u00e9rie de couches de donn\u00e9es.\n\nEn chaque pixel, la teneur en Carbone Organique Total (COT) est exprim\u00e9e en gramme de carbone par kilogramme de terre fine s\u00e8che (gC/kg). Le r\u00e9sultat en sortie du mod\u00e8le est une couche raster des teneurs en COT \u00e0 90 m\u00e8tres de r\u00e9solution et spatialement continue sur le territoire agricole wallon.\n\nLes teneurs moyennes en COT observ\u00e9es pour les sols (horizons de surface) sous cultures et prairies permanentes sur la p\u00e9riode 2015-2019 \u00e9taient de 1.33 gC/kg et 3.67 gC/kg respectivement, d\u2019apr\u00e8s la base de donn\u00e9es R\u00e9QuaSud. \n\nSur cette m\u00eame p\u00e9riode, 3.6 % des superficies sous cultures pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs en COT < 1 gC kg-1  et 79 % pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs < 1.5 gC/kg. Ce mod\u00e8le a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 pour chaque type d'occupation du sol d'int\u00e9r\u00eat (cultures et prairies permanentes).\n\nPour chaque occupation du sol, un Mod\u00e8le Additif G\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9 (GAM pour Generalised Additive Model) a \u00e9t\u00e9 ajust\u00e9 sur un jeu de calibration contenant deux tiers des points d'observation concern\u00e9s. Parmi ces param\u00e8tres, le carbone organique des sols, qui constitue plus de 50% de la masse de la mati\u00e8re organique du sol, est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l'indicateur principal de la qualit\u00e9 des sols, \u00e0 la fois pour ses fonctions agricoles et environnementales.\n\nLa pr\u00e9sente couche de donn\u00e9es constitue la cartographie des teneurs en carbone organique total (COT) pour les sols sous cultures et prairies permanentes en R\u00e9gion wallonne pour une p\u00e9riode comprise entre 2004 et 2014. La couche a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e par m\u00e9thode de mod\u00e9lisation spatiale d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e par l'UCL dans le cadre de la convention CARBIOSOL.\n\nPour plus de d\u00e9tails sur la constitution des couches cartographiques g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es dans le cadre du projet CARBIOSOL, veuillez-vous r\u00e9f\u00e9rer \u00e0 la fiche de m\u00e9tadonn\u00e9es documentant la s\u00e9rie de couches de donn\u00e9es.\n\nEn chaque pixel, la teneur en carbone organique total (COT) est exprim\u00e9e en gramme de carbone par kilogramme de terre fine s\u00e8che (gC/kg). Le r\u00e9sultat en sortie du mod\u00e8le est une couche raster des teneurs en COT \u00e0 90 m\u00e8tres de r\u00e9solution et spatialement continue sur le territoire agricole wallon.\n\nLes teneurs moyennes en COT observ\u00e9es pour les sols (horizons de surface) sous cultures et prairies permanentes sur la p\u00e9riode 2004-2014 \u00e9taient de 1.30 gC/kg et 3.61 gC/kg respectivement, d\u2019apr\u00e8s la base de donn\u00e9es REQUASUD. \n\nSur cette m\u00eame p\u00e9riode, 22 % des superficies sous cultures pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs en COT < 1.15 gC kg-1  et 73 % pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs < 1.5 gC/kg. Parmi ces param\u00e8tres, le carbone organique des sols, qui constitue plus de 50% de la masse de la mati\u00e8re organique du sol, est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l'indicateur principal de la qualit\u00e9 des sols, \u00e0 la fois pour ses fonctions agricoles et environnementales.\n\nLa pr\u00e9sente couche de donn\u00e9es constitue la cartographie des teneurs en carbone organique total (COT) historiques pour les sols sous cultures et prairies permanentes en R\u00e9gion wallonne. La p\u00e9riode couverte par cette cartographie s'\u00e9tend de f\u00e9vrier 1949 \u00e0 juillet 1972. La couche a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e par m\u00e9thode de mod\u00e9lisation spatiale d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e par l'UCL dans le cadre de la convention CARBIOSOL.\n\nPour plus de d\u00e9tails sur la constitution des couches cartographiques g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es dans le cadre du projet CARBIOSOL, veuillez-vous r\u00e9f\u00e9rer \u00e0 la fiche de m\u00e9tadonn\u00e9es documentant la s\u00e9rie de couches de donn\u00e9es.\n\nEn chaque pixel, la teneur en carbone organique total (COT) est exprim\u00e9e en gramme de carbone par kilogramme de terre fine s\u00e8che (gC/kg). Le r\u00e9sultat en sortie du mod\u00e8le est une couche raster des teneurs en COT \u00e0 90 m\u00e8tres de r\u00e9solution et spatialement continue sur le territoire agricole wallon.\n\nLes teneurs moyennes en COT pour les sols sous cultures et prairies sur la p\u00e9riode 1949-1972 \u00e9taient de 1.62 gC/kg et 3.26 gC/kg. Sur cette p\u00e9riode, 9% des superficies agricoles pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs en COT < 1.15 %C et 60% pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs < 1.5 gC kg-1. En de\u00e7\u00e0 de 1.15 gC/kg, le sol est d\u00e9structur\u00e9.\n\nLes teneurs en COT des sols pour les deux occupations de sols tendent \u00e0 augmenter du nord-ouest au sud-est, de la r\u00e9gion sablo-limoneuse \u00e0 la r\u00e9gion ardennaise, et rebaisser en r\u00e9gion Jurassique. Parmi ces param\u00e8tres, le carbone organique des sols, qui constitue plus de 50% de la masse de la mati\u00e8re organique du sol, est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l'indicateur principal de la qualit\u00e9 des sols, \u00e0 la fois pour ses fonctions agricoles et environnementales.\n\nLa pr\u00e9sente couche de donn\u00e9es constitue la cartographie des teneurs en carbone organique total (COT) historiques pour les sols sous cultures et prairies permanentes en R\u00e9gion wallonne. La p\u00e9riode couverte par cette cartographie s'\u00e9tend de f\u00e9vrier 1949 \u00e0 juillet 1972. La couche a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e par m\u00e9thode de mod\u00e9lisation spatiale d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e par l'UCL dans le cadre de la convention CARBIOSOL.\n\nPour plus de d\u00e9tails sur la constitution des couches cartographiques g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es dans le cadre du projet CARBIOSOL, veuillez-vous r\u00e9f\u00e9rer \u00e0 la fiche de m\u00e9tadonn\u00e9es documentant la s\u00e9rie de couches de donn\u00e9es.\n\nEn chaque pixel, la teneur en carbone organique total (COT) est exprim\u00e9e en gramme de carbone par kilogramme de terre fine s\u00e8che (gC/kg). Le r\u00e9sultat en sortie du mod\u00e8le est une couche raster des teneurs en COT \u00e0 90 m\u00e8tres de r\u00e9solution et spatialement continue sur le territoire agricole wallon.\n\nLes teneurs moyennes en COT pour les sols sous cultures et prairies sur la p\u00e9riode 1949-1972 \u00e9taient de 1.62 gC/kg et 3.26 gC/kg. Sur cette p\u00e9riode, 9% des superficies agricoles pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs en COT < 1.15 %C et 60% pr\u00e9sentaient des teneurs < 1.5 gC kg-1. En de\u00e7\u00e0 de 1.15 gC/kg, le sol est d\u00e9structur\u00e9.\n\nLes teneurs en COT des sols pour les deux occupations de sols tendent \u00e0 augmenter du nord-ouest au sud-est, de la r\u00e9gion sablo-limoneuse \u00e0 la r\u00e9gion ardennaise, et rebaisser en r\u00e9gion Jurassique.
