Thus, metal homeostasis is tightly regulated in plants. Plant species colonising metalliferous soils have evolved mechanisms to hypertolerate metals and, in rare cases, can hyperaccumulate them in excess amounts in their shoots. The molecular mechanisms of metal hypertolerance and hyperaccumulation are likely derived from alterations in the basic mechanisms involved in general metal homeostasis. Genes involved in metal transport, synthesis of metal chelators and oxidative stress responses are constitutively and highly expressed in metal hypertolerant and hyperaccumulator species. Plant specialized metabolites and cell wall components have been proposed as major players in these mechanisms. In addition, the high intra-specific natural variation of metal hypertolerance and hyperaccumulation suggests that various molecular mechanisms might be involved in the evolution of these traits. To date, the potential of wild plant populations as systems to study metal tolerance and hyperaccumulation has not been fully exploited. The advent of next-generation sequencing (NGS) has enabled the study of non-model species, providing an opportunity to study natural populations and new tolerant and/or hyperaccumulating species, and will provide new insights into metal tolerance and hyperaccumulation. In this review we highlight background knowledge about metal tolerance and hyperaccumulation in plants and the current state-of-the-art techniques to study and identify the underlying mechanisms of metal hypertolerance and hyperaccumulation. In the Cd-hyperaccumulator Solanum nigrum and non-accumulator Solanum melongena, the role of these organic ligands in the accumulation and detoxification mechanisms of Cd are debated. In this study, we used X-ray absorption spectroscopy to investigate Cd speciation in these plants (roots, stem, leaves) and in the soils used for their culture to unravel the plants responses to Cd exposure. The results show that Cd in the 100\u00a0mg\u00a0kg-1 Cd-doped clayey loam soil is sorbed onto iron oxyhydroxides. In both S.\u00a0nigrum and S.\u00a0melongena, Cd in roots and fresh leaves is mainly bound to thiol ligands, with a small contribution of inorganic S ligands in S.\u00a0nigrum leaves. We interpret the Cd binding to sulfur ligands as detoxification mechanisms, possibly involving the sequestration of Cd complexed with glutathione or phytochelatins in the plant vacuoles. In the stems, results show an increase binding of Cd to -O ligands (>50% for S.\u00a0nigrum). Methodendokumentation Bodenkunde,  Hennings 2000, Verkn\u00fcpfungsregel 7.1 bis 7.3). Gem\u00e4\u00df der INSPIRE-Datenspezifikation Soil (D2.8.III.3_v3.0) liegen die Inhalte der Karte INSPIRE-konform vor. Der WMS beinhaltet 11 Layer (SO.sorptionStrength) mit Angaben zur Bindungsst\u00e4rke bis 1 m Profiltiefe f\u00fcr die Schwermetalle Aluminium (Al), Blei (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Chrom III (Cr(III)), Eisen III (Fe(III)), Kobalt (Co), Kupfer (Cu), Mangan (Mn), Nickel (Ni), Quecksilber (Hg) und Zink (Zn).     ---      The compliant INSPIRE-WMS Soil / Relative Bindungsst\u00e4rke f\u00fcr Schwermetalle bis 1m Profiltiefe Brandenburg is a view service that delivers data in the annex schema Soil (derived from the original data set: Relative sorption strength for heavy metals for the depth up to 1 m Brandenburg). It provides an overview of the relative sorption strength for heavy metals for the depth up to 1 m in Brandenburg. The map is based on the legend units of the soil map (B\u00dcK300) with corresponding assignment of parameterized soil forms determined by field and laboratory investigations. For this purpose, the corresponding parameters (soil type, humus content, pH value) were statistically derived for the same horizon-substrate combinations (usually the median value). The sequence of horizon-substrate combinations in the soil forms with their parameters (soil type, humus content, pH value, upper limit of the Go horizon) formed the basis for the calculation of the relative sorption strength for heavy metals (see Methodendokumentation Bodenkunde, Hennings 2000, methods 7.1 to 7.3). The content of the soil map is compliant to the INSPIRE data specification for the annex theme Soil (D2.8.III.3_v3.0). As an accumulation poison, it is enriched in the body and can remain there for decades. Due to its chemical affinity to zinc, it occurs almost exclusively with zinc, especially in all zinc-bearing minerals (including zinc diaphragm, galmei) and rocks. The average concentration of Cd in the rocks of the upper continental crust (clearness) is 0.1 mg/kg, soils usually contain 0.50 mg/kg. In contrast to As and other heavy metals (e.g. Cr, Ni), no geochemical specialisation on Cd can be detected in the main Saxon rock types near the surface. The petrogeochemical component is in the range of the Clark value by 0.1 mg/kg. In the ore deposits Cd is mainly bound to the zinc ore of the polymetallic hydrothermal aisles and partly to the skarn deposits and stratigen-stratiform formations (chacogenic component). Since the beginning of industrialization, cadmium has been released into the environment through the emissions of non-ferrous metal smelters, the combustion of coal and petroleum, and more recently through electroplating, waste incineration, fertilizers, sewage sludge and compost. While in the upper soils of North and Central Saxony low grades dominate (Cd-poor periglacian sandy to loamy substrates; Loess), there is a relative accumulation in the weathering soils over solid rocks. A dependence on the clay content is to be found in this respect that the sandy substrates have slightly lower Cd contents compared to loamy substrates. On arable and grassland sites, higher Cd levels are found compared to the forest sites in the topsoil, as the very low pH values under forest lead to Cd mobilization and shift to greater soil depths. Particularly high Cd loads are found in the Freiberg area, which are caused by the geogenous Cd enrichment in the formation of colorful metal-bearing veins, but above all anthropogenic by the smelting of zinc ores. The highest grades are found in the upper soils in the immediate vicinity of the smelter sites and in lower concentrations east of them (in the main wind direction). Other zinc mineralized deposits in the Westerzgebirge and the Erzgebirgsnordrandzone have only slightly elevated grades. The floodplain soils of the Freiberger and the Vereinigte Mulde occupies a special position in the loading with cadmium. Due to the removal of soils with geogenous enrichments in the catchment area and the enormous anthropogenic additional loads caused by the ore processing and the metallurgical industry, high Cd enrichments occur when the river sediments and Schweban parts are deposited in the flood areas. In the floodplain soils of the Elbe and Zwickauer Mulde, on the other hand, significantly lower grades occur. Unter Retention im hydrologischen Sinne versteht man die Verringerung, die Hemmung oder die Verz\u00f6gerung des Abflussgeschehens. Diese Prozesse k\u00f6nnen sich in den Flie\u00dfgew\u00e4ssern und ihren \u00dcberschwemmungsgebieten direkt auf die Hochwasserwelle auswirken (Gew\u00e4sserretention) oder auch die Entstehung einer Hochwasserwelle im Einzugsgebiet steuern (Gebietsretention). Ma\u00dfnahmen zum Erhalt und zur Erweiterung von Retentionsr\u00e4umen am Fluss selbst bilden die wirksamste Methode, den Wasserstand bei Hochwasserabfluss in einem Gew\u00e4sser abzumildern, da die Hochwasserwelle w\u00e4hrend ihres Laufes im Flussbett und in der Aue durch verschiedene R\u00fcckhaltemechanismen verformt wird (B\u00f6hm et al. 1999). Dem technischen Hochwasserschutz (Deiche, R\u00fcckhaltebecken, Talsperren) sind dabei Grenzen gesetzt, da R\u00fcckhaltebecken nicht beliebig gro\u00df und Deiche nicht immer h\u00f6her gebaut werden k\u00f6nnen. Es wurde wegen der Dominanz landwirtschaftlicher Fl\u00e4chen in Brandenburg fl\u00e4chendeckend die Humsklassifikation f\u00fcr die landwirtschaftliche Nutzung angewendet. Die Karte stellt die klassifizierten Werte f\u00fcr den Oberboden dar. Dies sind in der Regel die Werte des obersten Mineral- bzw. Moorbodenhorizontes. Perzentil herangezogen. Der Median stellt den mittleren Hintergrundgehalt, das 90. Perzentil die Obergrenze des typischen Hintergrundgehaltes dar. F\u00fcr die Ermittlung der Hintergrundgehalte darf der anthropogene Anteil nicht aus einer identifizierbaren Einzelquelle oder einer einzelnen Belastungsursache stammen. Vielmehr m\u00fcssen sie diffus sein, d.h. sie m\u00fcssen Folge allgemeiner gro\u00dfr\u00e4umiger (ubiquit\u00e4rer) und \u00fcber l\u00e4ngere Zeitr\u00e4ume erfolgten Stoffverteilungen sein. Vor der Berechnung von Hintergrundwerten sind daher spezifisch belastete B\u00f6den aus den Daten zu entfernen.                                             Das Substrat ist das wichtigste Differenzierungskriterium f\u00fcr naturbedingte Gehalte anorganischer Stoffe. Die n\u00e4chst tiefere Gliederungsebene sind Horizontgruppen wie Ober- und Unterboden sowie Untergrund. Sofern dann noch eine ausreichende Fallzahl besteht, wird die Gruppe der Oberbodenhorizonte weiter in Nutzungsklassen untergliedert.                                             Das Landesamt f\u00fcr Geologie und Bergbau Rheinland-Pfalz besch\u00e4ftigt sich seit vielen Jahren im Rahmen der bodenkundlichen Landesaufnahme sowie durch Kooperationen mit andern Landesbeh\u00f6rden mit physikalischen und chemischen Untersuchungen der B\u00f6den. Die Informationsgrundlagen konnten mit Daten, die w\u00e4hrend des Projektes Bodenbelastungskataster Rheinland-Pfalz erhoben wurden, erheblich verbessert werden. Seit diesem Projekt werden fl\u00e4chendeckende Bodenuntersuchungen mit dem Bodenzustandsbericht Rheinland-Pfalz sukzessiv fortgef\u00fchrt. Dieses langfristig angesetzte Projekt des Ministeriums f\u00fcr Umwelt, Forsten und Verbraucherschutz wird im Auftrag des Landesamtes f\u00fcr Umwelt, Wasserwirtschaft und Gewerbeaufsicht durchgef\u00fchrt. Mittlerweile sind etwa 18 Prozent der Landesfl\u00e4che mit mindestens einem untersuchten Standort pro km\u00b2 erfasst. Die Datenbasis zur r\u00e4umlichen Verbreitung der Substratgruppen stammt aus dem Fachinformationssystem Boden (FISBO) des LGB. In diesem System werden Daten verwaltet, die aus boch heterogenen bodenkundlichen Kartierungen (Ma\u00dfstabsebene 1:25.000 bis 1:200.000) stammen. F\u00fcr die Ermittlung der Hintergrundgehalte darf der anthropogene Anteil nicht aus einer identifizierbaren Einzelquelle oder einer einzelnen Belastungsursache stammen. Vielmehr m\u00fcssen sie diffus sein, d.h. sie m\u00fcssen Folge allgemeiner gro\u00dfr\u00e4umiger (ubiquit\u00e4rer) und \u00fcber l\u00e4ngere Zeitr\u00e4ume erfolgten Stoffverteilungen sein. Vor der Berechnung von Hintergrundwerten sind daher spezifisch belastete B\u00f6den aus den Daten zu entfernen.                                             Das Substrat ist das wichtigste Differenzierungskriterium f\u00fcr naturbedingte Gehalte anorganischer Stoffe. Die n\u00e4chst tiefere Gliederungsebene sind Horizontgruppen wie Ober- und Unterboden sowie Untergrund. Sofern dann noch eine ausreichende Fallzahl besteht, wird die Gruppe der Oberbodenhorizonte weiter in Nutzungsklassen untergliedert.                                             Das Landesamt f\u00fcr Geologie und Bergbau Rheinland-Pfalz besch\u00e4ftigt sich seit vielen Jahren im Rahmen der bodenkundlichen Landesaufnahme sowie durch Kooperationen mit andern Landesbeh\u00f6rden mit physikalischen und chemischen Untersuchungen der B\u00f6den. Die Informationsgrundlagen konnten mit Daten, die w\u00e4hrend des Projektes Bodenbelastungskataster Rheinland-Pfalz erhoben wurden, erheblich verbessert werden. Seit diesem Projekt werden fl\u00e4chendeckende Bodenuntersuchungen mit dem Bodenzustandsbericht Rheinland-Pfalz sukzessiv fortgef\u00fchrt. Dieses langfristig angesetzte Projekt des Ministeriums f\u00fcr Umwelt, Forsten und Verbraucherschutz wird im Auftrag des Landesamtes f\u00fcr Umwelt, Wasserwirtschaft und Gewerbeaufsicht durchgef\u00fchrt. Mittlerweile sind etwa 18 Prozent der Landesfl\u00e4che mit mindestens einem untersuchten Standort pro km\u00b2 erfasst. Die Datenbasis zur r\u00e4umlichen Verbreitung der Substratgruppen stammt aus dem Fachinformationssystem Boden (FISBO) des LGB. In diesem System werden Daten verwaltet, die aus boch heterogenen bodenkundlichen Kartierungen (Ma\u00dfstabsebene 1:25.000 bis 1:200.000) stammen. Dies f\u00fchrt zwar zu erkennbar unterschiedlichen Aufl\u00f6sungen und Abgrenzungsproblemen, f\u00fcr landesweite \u00dcbersichten im kleinma\u00dfst\u00e4bigen Anwendungsbereich oberhalb des Ma\u00dfstabs von 1:50.000 sind diese Daten aber trotz ihrer Inhomogenit\u00e4t geeignet. Die dargestellten Inhalte wurden f\u00fcr den Ma\u00dfstab 1 : 300.000 erstellt und sind f\u00fcr Darstellungen in Ma\u00dfst\u00e4ben gr\u00f6\u00dfer 1 : 100.000 nicht geeignet. Die Karte basiert auf den Legendeneinheiten der Bodenkarte, die den Gehaltsklassen entsprechend der Mediane f\u00fcr die dominierende der beteiligten Fl\u00e4chenbodenformen zugeordnet wurden. Die Gehaltsklassen, der jeweils f\u00fcr OB und UG einheitlichen Kartenlegenden, richten sich nach der Spannweite s\u00e4mtlicher Werte f\u00fcr das betreffende Element. Die Legendeneinheiten wurden farblich so gestaltet, dass die Gehalte von Gr\u00fcn \u00fcber Gelb nach Braun ansteigen. Da f\u00fcr die anthropogenen B\u00f6den nur wenige und stark streuende Werte vorliegen, wurden Siedlungsr\u00e4ume mit \u201ekeine Daten\u201c attributiert (grau). Die Kartendarstellungen werden erg\u00e4nzt durch eine tabellarische \u00dcbersicht \u00fcber die verwendeten mittleren Gehalte und deren Farbgestaltung. Diese stellen je Legendeneinheit eine Bodenformengesellschaft dar. Die einzelnen (Fl\u00e4chen-)Bodenformen wurden mit Parametern belegt, auch mit jenen zur Berechnung der Bindungsst\u00e4rke f\u00fcr Schwermetalle (s. Hennings 2000, Kap. 2), die auf Basis von Gel\u00e4nde- und Laboruntersuchungen ermittelt wurden. Dazu wurden f\u00fcr gleiche Horizont-Substrat-Kombinationen die entsprechenden Parameter (Bodenart, Humusgehalt, pH-Wert) statistisch abgeleitet (i.d.R. der Medianwert). OGC API-Features ist eine Web-API zur vereinfachten Nutzung der Daten in entsprechenden Web-Entwicklungsumgebungen. Grundlage sind die analytischen Daten zu ca. 2000 nach Bodenkundlicher Kartieranleitung (KA 5) aufgenommenen und unregelm\u00e4\u00dfig \u00fcber das Landesterritorium verteilten Bodenprofilen - k\u00f6nigswasserl\u00f6sliche Gehalte in Trockensubstanz Feinboden (kleiner 2 mm) f\u00fcr Arsen (As), Cadmium (Cd), Chrom (Cr), Kupfer (Cu), Nickel (Ni), Blei (Pb), Zink (Zn); Totalgehalte f\u00fcr Quecksilber (Hg). Die Karte basiert auf den Legendeneinheiten der Bodenkarte, die den Gehaltsklassen entsprechend der Mediane f\u00fcr die dominierende der beteiligten Fl\u00e4chenbodenformen zugeordnet wurden. Die Gehaltsklassen, der jeweils f\u00fcr OB und UG einheitlichen Kartenlegenden, richten sich nach der Spannweite s\u00e4mtlicher Werte f\u00fcr das betreffende Element. Die Legendeneinheiten wurden farblich so gestaltet, dass die Gehalte von Gr\u00fcn \u00fcber Gelb nach Braun ansteigen. Da f\u00fcr die anthropogenen B\u00f6den nur wenige und stark streuende Werte vorliegen, wurden Siedlungsr\u00e4ume mit \u201ekeine Daten\u201c attributiert (grau). Die Kartendarstellungen werden erg\u00e4nzt durch eine tabellarische \u00dcbersicht \u00fcber die verwendeten mittleren Gehalte und deren Farbgestaltung.
