Estudaram-se a distribui\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o, a acumula\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o de carbono org\uffc3\uffa2nico (C) e o papel do solo como fonte ou dep\uffc3\uffb3sito de C-CO2 em perfis de Latossolo Vermelho-Escuro (LE) argiloso e muito argiloso. As avalia\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffb5es foram realizadas nos campos experimentais da Embrapa Cerrados, Planaltina, Distrito Federal, em seis sistemas de manejo: vegeta\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o t\uffc3\uffadpica de cerrado (CE), reflorestamento de eucalipto (EU), pastagem cultivada (PA), preparo com grade pesada (GP), preparo com arado de discos (AD), plantio direto (PD), estabelecidos por mais de doze anos, na regi\uffc3\uffa3o dos Cerrados. O C foi analisado em amostras de solo coletadas no perfil at\uffc3\uffa9 \uffc3\uffa0 profundidade de 100 cm. O balan\uffc3\uffa7o de C dos outros sistemas em rela\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o ao CE foi utilizado para analisar o comportamento do solo como fonte ou dep\uffc3\uffb3sito de C-CO2. As altera\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffb5es mais importantes na din\uffc3\uffa2mica do C, no que se refere a adi\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffb5es, perdas e distribui\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o, ocorreram nas camadas superficiais. Em rela\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o ao sistema natural (CE), verificou-se que a acumula\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o de C foi maior nos sistemas com menor intensidade de perturba\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o do solo (PD, PA e EU) e menor nos sistemas mais perturbados (AD e GP). Os solos sob PD, PA e EU funcionaram como dep\uffc3\uffb3sito e os solos sob GP e AD como fonte de CO2.

No segundo, com 15 anos, situado na Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Eldorado do Sul (RS), foram avaliados os seguintes tratamentos: o sistema de cultura aveia/milho em preparo convencional sem aduba\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o nitrogenada, o mesmo sistema (aveia/milho) em tr\uffc3\uffaas diferentes sistemas de preparo do solo (convencional, reduzido e plantio direto) e o sistema de cultura aveia + vica/milho + caupi em plantio direto, todos os \uffc3\uffbaltimos quatro tratamentos com aduba\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o nitrogenada (144 kg ha-1 ano-1 ). Neste experimento, foram ainda utilizados, como refer\uffc3\uffaancia, uma \uffc3\uffa1rea de campo natural e um tratamento com elevada adi\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o de res\uffc3\uffadduos (guandu/milho). Inicialmente, os tratamentos foram hierarquizados em ordem crescente de QS, com base nos resultados dispon\uffc3\uffadveis e na experi\uffc3\uffaancia acumulada pelos pesquisadores respons\uffc3\uffa1veis pelos experimentos. Foram analisados os teores de Carbono Org\uffc3\uffa2nico Total (COT) e Nitrog\uffc3\uffaanio total (NT), COT e NT nas fra\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffb5es superiores e inferiores a 53 \uffc2\uffb5m, potencial de mineraliza\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o do C e N do solo e C da biomassa microbiana. Somente as camadas de 0-5 e 0-20 cm foram utilizadas neste trabalho. A QS foi alterada pelos manejos adotados em ambas as \uffc3\uffa1reas experimentais. O COT e NT, avaliados na camada de 0-5 cm, mostraram-se eficientes em discriminarem o impacto de sistemas de manejo sobre a QS, reproduzindo, em ambas as \uffc3\uffa1reas, a ordena\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o proposta. Dentre as fra\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffb5es avaliadas, a > 53 \uffc2\uffb5m foi a mais sens\uffc3\uffadvel em detectar os impactos dos sistemas de manejo.

These samples were analyzed for the aggregate stability index (ASI), mean weighted diameter (MWD), mean geometric diameter (MGD) in the classes > 8, 8-4, 4-2, 2-1, 1-0.5, 0.5-0.25, and < 0.25 mm, and for physical properties (soil texture, water dispersible clay (WDC), flocculation index (FI) and bulk density (Bd)) and chemical properties (total organic carbon - COT, total nitrogen - N, exchangeable calcium - Ca2+, and pH). The results indicated that more intense soil preparation (M < NT < PC) resulted in a decrease in soil stability, confirmed by all stability indicators analyzed: MWD, MGD, ASI, aggregate class distribution, WDC and FI, indicating the validity of these indicators in aggregation analyses of the studied soil.

However, the adoption of no-tillage (NT) and complex crop rotations may improve soil structural quality. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the physical properties of an Oxisol under FO, CT, and three summer crop sequences in NT: continuous corn (NTcc), continuous soybean (NTcs), and a soybean/corn rotation (NTscr). Both NT and CT decreased soil organic carbon (SOC) content, SOC stock, water stable aggregates (WSA), geometric mean diameter (GMD), soil total porosity (TP), macroporosity (MA), and the least limiting water range (LLWR). However they increased soil bulk density (BD) and tensile strength (TS) of the aggregates when compared to soil under FO. Soil under NT had higher WSA, GMD, BD, TS and microporosty, but lower TP and MA than soil under CT. Soil under FO did not attain critical values for the LLWR, but the lower limit of the LLWR in soils under CT and NT was resistance to penetration (RP) for all values of BD, while the upper limit of field capacity was air-filled porosity for BD values greater than 1.46 (CT), 1.40 (NTscr), 1.42 (NTcc), and 1.41 (NTcs) kg dm-3. Soil under NTcc and NTcs decreased RP even with the increase in BD because of the formation of biopores. Furthermore, higher critical BD was verified under NTcc (1.62 kg dm-3) and NTcs (1.57 kg dm-3) compared to NTscr and CT (1.53 kg dm-3).

Foram coletadas, tamb\uffc3\uffa9m, amostras de solo na mesma profundidade e na mesma \uffc3\uffa9poca, em uma \uffc3\uffa1rea de vegeta\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o nativa (Cerrado sensu strictu), adjacente ao experimento. A subsolagem apresentou os maiores valores de carbono aos 30 dias ap\uffc3\uffb3s a germina\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o (865,7 mg kg-1 de solo). Este valor foi reduzido para 80,3 mg kg-1 de solo na flora\uffc3\uffa7\uffc3\uffa3o. Os valores de carbono na semeadura direta mantiveram-se mais est\uffc3\uffa1veis, principalmente na camada de 0-20 cm. As camadas de 0-5 e 5-10 cm apresentaram diferen\uffc3\uffa7a na maioria das \uffc3\uffa9pocas estudadas e das demais camadas. A subsolagem mostrou o menor valor do carbono org\uffc3\uffa2nico do solo, ap\uffc3\uffb3s a colheita da soja. Herein, we report the results of long-term experiments (18\u201332 years) aimed at quantifying the maximum phosphorus adsorption capacity (MPAC) and its determinant mineralogical variables in Brazilian soils and at assessing the effect of no-tillage (NT) in mitigating the phosphorus adsorption of soils. The MPAC of soils ranged from 297 to 4,561 mg kg-1\u00a0in the 0.00\u20130.10 m layer and from 285 to 4,961 mg kg-1\u00a0in the 0.10\u20130.20 m layer. The MPAC was correlated with the concentrations of iron oxides, goethite and ferrihydrite, gibbsite/(gibbsite+kaolinite) ratio and the specific surface area.
