De ondergrondlagen in dit deel van de ondergrond bestaan hoofdzakelijk uit onverharde sedimenten, waarin de grondsoorten klei, zand, grind en veen voorkomen. De lagen worden op basis van verschillen in lithologie en andere eigenschappen ingedeeld in lithostratigrafische eenheden. DGM is een model van de opbouw en de samenhang (geometrie) van deze lithostratigrafische eenheden. De hoogteligging van de onder- en bovenkant en de dikte van de eenheden worden vastgelegd in gridbestanden (rasters) met een celgrootte van 100 bij 100 m. Behalve de laaginformatie bevat DGM ook de ge\u00efnterpreteerde boorbeschrijvingen die bij het maken van het model gebruikt zijn. Het modelgebied van DGM bestaat uit het vasteland van Nederland. De ondergrond van het Nederlandse deel van het Continentaal Plat is niet in DGM opgenomen. DGM is een regionaal model. Het is niet geschikt voor gebruik op lokale schaal; voor het maken van een lokaal ondergrondmodel zullen altijd aanvullende gegevens nodig zijn. The subsurface layers in this part of the subsurface mainly consist of unpaved sediments, in which the soil types of clay, sand, gravel and peat occur. The layers are divided into lithostratigraphic units based on differences in lithology and other properties. DGM is a model of the structure and coherence (geometry) of these lithostratigraphic units. The height of the bottom and top and the thickness of the units are recorded in grid files (grids) with a cell size of 100 by 100\u00a0m. In addition to the layer information, DGM also contains the interpreted drilling descriptions used in making the model. The model area of DGM consists of the mainland of the Netherlands. The subsoil of the Dutch part of the Continental Plate is not included in DGM. DGM is a regional model.
