Soil erosion by water destroys the soil in the long term and thus the natural basis of life for future generations. The map was created using the long-term model ABAG (General Soil Ablation Equation). It is the adaptation of the Universal Soil Equation (USLE) model to German conditions. The method is published in DIN 19708:2005-02 and in the method documentation of the ad hoc working group Soil. For the application to soil maps, the procedure has been changed by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR). The map includes soil characteristics (K-factor) from the use-differentiated soil overview map of Germany 1:1,000,000 (BÜK1000N), morphological characteristics (S-factor) from the DGM50 of the Federal Office for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) and climatic characteristics (R-factor) from the precipitation data of the German Weather Service (DWD) for the period 1961-1990. The map of the erosion-prone runways highlights sites that are subject to particularly high erosion hazards due to relief-related discharge concentrations. The shape to the runways borders on agricultural areas, runways that are at least 0.3 ha in size. Around 10.000 ha of the runways are located on agricultural land, of which 5.100 ha are used for agriculture. The derivation of the sites is based on the evaluations of ABAG and the relief parameter “grid-related catchment area size”. By linking both situations, the erosive effect of the discharge concentration can be derived qualitatively.
