This INSPIRE compliant data comes from the CARBIOSOL source data - Predicted Total Organic Carbon Contents - 2015-2019 period.  The quality of a soil can be assessed through the study of various physical, chemical or biological parameters. Among these parameters, soil organic carbon, which constitutes more than 50% of the mass of soil organic matter, is generally considered the main indicator of soil quality, both for its agricultural and environmental functions.  This data layer is the mapping of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) levels for soils under crops and permanent grassland in the Walloon Region for a period between 2015 and 2019. The layer was created by spatial modeling method developed by UCLouvain as part of the CARBIOSOL convention and then transmitted to REQUASUD for data processing 2015-2019.  For more details on the mapping layers generated in the CARBIOSOL project, please refer to the metadata sheet documenting the data layer series.  In each pixel, the Total Organic Carbon (TOC) content is expressed in grams of carbon per kilogram of dry fine earth (gC/kg). The output of the model is a raster layer of TOC contents at 90 meters resolution and spatially continuous on the Walloon agricultural territory.  The average TOC levels observed for soils (surface horizons) under crops and permanent grassland over the period 2015-2019 were 1.33 gC/kg and 3.67 gC/kg respectively, according to the R\u00e9QuaSud database.   During the same period, 3.6% of the areas under crops had TOC contents < 1 gC kg-1 and 79% had contents < 1.5 gC/kg. This INSPIRE compliant data layer is derived from the source data \"Atlas du karst wallon - Sites karstiques surfaciques\".  In Wallonia, 30% of the subsoil is made up of soluble carbonate rocks (limestone, dolomite, chalk, gypsum, etc.). By infiltrating these rocks, runoff generates a dissolution of these rocks, which gives rise to particular phenomena both underground (caves, underground rivers) and on the surface (chantoirs, sinkholes, collapses, cavities, etc.). These phenomena are called \"karstic\". By extension, the word \"karst\" also refers to a limestone region, or more broadly a region of soluble rocks whose landscape is marked by the effects of dissolution. We therefore speak of \"rock\", \"region\" or \"landscape\" karst.  The Atlas of Walloon Karst is the reference document for karst phenomena in Wallonia.   This data layer covers all karst sites, both underground and above ground. These data concern phenomena with a ground right-of-way whose diameter exceeds 30m. In this case, the representation by a single dot is not sufficient and does not render the impact that this site may have on the local environment. For these sites, a polygon resuming the contour of the phenomenon is therefore added with the label of the site in its center.   Particular karst phenomena illustrating the same phenomenon can be represented by the same polygon. These envelope curves mainly concern depressions (such as sinkholes) as well as paleokarst and abannets (former pockets of dissolution of carbonate rock, filled with loose ground partly evacuated and extracted by humans).  The associated winning table includes an identifier for each phenomenon (IGN card number + unique site number), the name and qualifier of the site, the municipality in which the phenomenon is located, fields to differentiate the site according to their nature and a hyperlink to the site data sheet.  The source data layer is continuously updated by the Walloon Commission for the Study and Protection of Underground Sites (CWEPSS) with the help of many collaborators. The period covered by this map is from February 1949 to July 1972. The layer was created by spatial modelling method developed by UCL in the framework of the CARBIOSOL convention. In each pixel, the total organic carbon (TOC) content is expressed in grams of carbon per kilogram of dry fine earth (gC/kg). The output of the model is a raster layer of TOC contents at 90 meters resolution and spatially continuous on the Walloon agricultural territory.  The average TOC levels for soils under crops and grasslands over the period 1949-1972 were 1.62 gC/kg and 3.26 gC/kg. During this period, 9% of agricultural areas had TOC contents < 1.15 %C and 60% had contents < 1.5 gC kg-1. Below 1.15 gC/kg, the soil is destructured.  Soil TOC levels for both soil occupations tend to increase from north-west to south-east, from the sandy-loamy region to the Ardennes region, and decrease in the Jurassic region. The layout of geohydrological maps can contribute to a better alignment between spatial planning, public space design, green management and water management. It is quite possible to save costs by combining multiple management aspects with the construction of green-blue structures: tackling flooding, combating soil desiccation, developing more urban nature and biodiversity. Finally, these data are used as substantiation in the preparation of the rainwater plan; a plan indicating at district level how much infiltration and/or buffer capacity is desirable and in which forms (e.g. collective wadi, canal or pond). The contract concerns the preparation of four geohydrological maps, in particular: a soil map, a groundwater map (meter - ground level) with an annual average depth of the phreatic groundwater table below street level, a groundwater map with annual average levels relative to the topographic reference level (meter -/+ TAW) and an infiltration map of the Antwerp region. The study is part of the characterisation of the subsurface of Antwerp with a view to the localisation of infiltration-prone areas for future construction projects. These maps describe the entire regionthe territory of Antwerp (city of Antwerp with its 9 districts and submunicipalities), with the exception of the Antwerp port area. For the right bank of the Antwerp port area, the possibilities of rainwater infiltration and buffering have already been investigated (What about rainwater in the Antwerp port area?, IMDC iov Port of Antwerp and Alfaport, 2013).
